10-month-old dies; man charged in death

UPDATED 4 p.m. CLINTON -- The state will not seek the death penalty against a Clinton man charged in the beating death of his girlfriend’s daughter, the DeWitt County prosecutor said Monday.

Richard Heuermann, 21, cried and asked for a chair to sit down as five aggravated battery and five first-degree murder charges were read against him in court. He is accused of beating 10-month-old Ava Bowhay on June 1.

Bond was raised from $500,000 to $1 million in the case. Heuermann must post $100,000, 10 percent of the total bond, to be released. Public defender Richard Goff was appointed to represent Heurermann.

An autopsy is planned for Tuesday, according to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll.

Awwww....bless his little heart, crying and needing to sit down. Guess hearing the reality of what he did was just a little too much. Too bad he can't actually *feel* the pain he inflicted on his tiny victim...he'd really be crying then, huh?

Yea unfortunately the death penalty was thrown out of Illinois by good all George Ryan who was sentenced to prison for taking bribes and other such things.

Richard Heuermann

He started out with 5 counts Aggravated Battery and 5 counts 1st Degree Murder. He ended up sentenced for 1 count of Involuntary Manslaughter/Family Member.

He was sentenced to 14 years.

06/08/2016 - Projected Discharge Date

oh ridiculous.......but once i saw they werent seeking the dp i saw it coming.


why is it if he beat a full grown man to death he'd get the dp but an infant isnt worth 15 years?
