Van der Sloot arrives at Lima police headquarters

Lima, Peru -- Murder suspect Joran van der Sloot arrived Saturday at the Lima police headquarters in Peru, where he is facing charges that he killed a Peruvian woman.
Van der Sloot, handcuffed and wearing a protective vest, was escorted through a news conference held by Peruvian authorities as photographers snapped photo after photo.

The body of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez was found Wednesday in a Lima hotel room registered to van der Sloot, a Dutch citizen who was twice arrested and released in connection with the 2005 disappearance of American teenager Natalee Holloway in Aruba.

Flores' body was badly beaten and investigators believe a tennis racquet in the room was used in the killing, Carlos Gonzalo, spokesman for Peru's Interior Ministry, told CNN. Despite reports that a baseball bat was the murder weapon, Gonzalo said there was not a baseball bat in the room.

Van der Sloot has yet to retain a local attorney, though that was expected to happen in the next day or two, Gonzalo said. He has asked for his mother, though authorities couldn't confirm whether she's coming to Lima.

wants his mommy! Unreal.
So now we're back to the tennis raquette and stephanie being "badly beaten".

PrinceSSa, I've been wondering the same thing. I keep wondering why this smart, well educated, privileged, gay, young Peruvian woman would go to an American guy's hostel room. I'm wondering if he said he had to pick up his cell, using an excuse like this father is ill and he wants to see if his mother has called, or was picking up a jacket or something, so they could go off and have breakfast? He may have even told her he had to go and pick up some cash or his credit card (lies of course), or maybe he told her he had an American T-shirt she could have.

I think there are a number of ways he could convince her to come up for " a minute" especially if he wasn't "all over her" - so she probably felt safe.

:waitasec: American guy's hostel room?

When I slowed up the tape, she is wearing long pants with a shirt, not a dress. However, I am not able to sense her maneuvering anything as she enters his room. His smiling at the desk, gleeful - twirl of the key - he's not drunk. Really, evil.

Hi Epiphany, I remember in the photos of them together in the casino where she was sitting at a table, she did have on a jacket. She also had what looked like a silk scarf on her lap sitting there. I also saw a photo somewhere of her wearing that scarf around her neck. When I first saw it on her lap I thought it was a big green napkin. lol ETA: Whoops, thought I was responding to Beyond Belief's post. ;}

It's possible they were both for him of course.

am I the only one thinking the 2 coffees were a "ruse"? It appears that he is aware of the security cameras; and he seems cold and calculating enough to calmly make it look "normal" and THEN leave.....giving himself some "wiggle room".
I think this idea may have been mentioned but dismissed??
sorry , I have read so much and the reports are so confusing I'm sure I missed a lot.
just wondering ......I really have NO idea!

In the taxi on his way out of town? I mean, really... when and where would he have done that??

It was my assumption that he did it in wherever he stayed on Wednesday night in Vina del Mar.

According to this article, he was taken back there at some point by PDI to retrieve his belongings that he probably ditched after leaving the hotel in Peru. It was stated in this article that he "forgot which room he stayed in". A convenient excuse I guess for them to not be able to locate whatever evidence he took with him from the hotel in Lima.

I read he already called her when he was captured.

I'll see if I can find the link...

I agree. To me it looked like he was staging as he made eye contact with the camera with his 'poker' face.
Saunters out in a short sleeved shirt. According to Fuhrman, reports about there being a bloody struggle aren't true - according to the ME stephanie died from blunt force trauma to the back of the head and the only blood was from her nose and ear. He obviously grabbed the front of her head and smashed it into the headboard. So, he probably could have worn the same long sleeved white shirt he had on earlier.
He further went on to stage the coffee run, imo.

I think both coffees were for him. One for immediate consumption, one for on the go. I read he left with one coffee when leaving the hotel. I think Stephany was already dead or mortally wounded. No sinister alibi plot.
For those reading up on Peru, I will always associate the beautiful melody of the Peruvian El Condor Pasa (no , it is not a Simon Garfunkel original) with Joran's demise. I will be humming it when he gets convicted.

From the description Stephany's brothers gave on Nancy's show, I can believe the "badly beaten" part. I think the baseball bat got lost in translation somehow yesterday, but it is good to see the bloody clothes being found with JVDS is still part of the news report. MOO

No, you're not the only one. I thought that when I first heard of the two coffees, that he wanted to make it look "normal" since he'd walked past the desk a few hours earlier with her and she wasn't seen leaving. I agree and believe he was well aware of the surveillance. I also believe Stephany was probably attacked shortly after going into the room, not so close to when he left. MOO
