Male Seen Walking With/Near Amber on Feb 13, 2009

I don't know the area that Amber disappeared from but are there are a lot of illegal immigrants in that area? Could the boy she was walking with be here illegally & that is why he never came forward?

I'm really going to ask something far-fetched:

Thinking about Amber's love of animals again. It has been said in many articles that she loved wolves. Her screen name includes the word wolves or wolf. It has also been said that she started talking to boys online a few weeks prior to her disappearance. A logical point of conversation for a predator to use would be to ask her why she has her screen name, etc.
Taking it even further down this path. Her body was found near an Indian Reservation. Some Native American tribes consider the wolf as a spirit guide or sacred animal. Could this person have lured her to the Reservation area by wanting to show her wolves?

does everyone remember the girl who looked like amber who had a white van try to abduct her? Is it possible the eyewitnesses saw this girl instead of amber if they looked so much alike?

There is no solid proof that it was Amber who was supposedly seen by the witness speaking to the guy. I mean it is just a perception or opinion, right?

I've been wondering about whether or not the eye witnesses actually saw Amber. Wasn't it raining? If so, she might have had the hood up on her hoodie. How many kids walked to school wearing a black hoodie that morning? If the hood is up then it would be hard for people driving by to see her face. Did they just assume it was Amber because of what she was wearing or did she wave at them?

I don't want anyone to think I am coming down hard on the witnesses. I am just putting myself if their shoes. If I was driving my attention would be mostly on the road...especially if it is raining. I would probably remember the clothing someone was wearing but I don't think I would be looking closely enough to see who it was unless they were waving & trying to get my attention. IDK...maybe it's just me. Of course if she DIDN'T have her hood up then I can see where they might have been a little more sure that it was actually Amber.

So, what if the teen boy didn't come forward because he wasn't with Amber? Maybe he didn't realize he was the person who police were looking to talk to. Just a thought...

One of the witnesses said they were going to stop and pick her up and take her the last of the way to school but then when they got closer realized Amber was walking with a boy and decided to leave her be. Now I can't find that statement, it's out there though, will keep looking.

I've lived in North San Diego County for the last 20 years or so. I am totally familiar with the areas where Amber and Chelsea lived and went missing. We were just at the Pala Casino for brunch last week. Weird and unsettling to realize now that Amber was so close. San Diego in general, but especially Escondido, is heavily Hispanic. Personally, I don't put too much into people seeing her talking to someone with that description. If you walked down any Escondido street, it would describe most of the guys you'd see. I have a feeling it was just something casual. It could be a classmate. If it was, maybe they've been afraid of getting in trouble so they kept quiet. I truly think Gardner lured her into a car/van. From what I've heard about the dogs the family used, it sounds like she was alive till she reached the Pala area. So incredibly sad. I've seen her posters up everywhere for the past year. Hurt my heart every time. As horrible as it was not knowing where she could be, this news is worse. Poor, poor kid. I feel for her whole family. And Chelsea King's.

Here it is.

ESCONDIDO: Where is Amber Dubois?
A year later, police remain mystified by Escondido teen's disappearance

[snipped]
The last time anyone saw Amber that Friday morning was about 7:09 a.m., police say.

She was walking south on North Broadway near Escondido High School's athletic field. Had she walked another 200 yards, past the school's football stadium, Amber may have come within view of a security camera mounted on top of the gym.

"Every morning, she meets her friends, believe it or not, right under the video camera," Benton said.

A neighbor who had dropped his son off at school said he noticed Amber walking on the sidewalk as he drove north on Broadway. Another neighbor who was heading south on the same road to drop off her son said she nearly stopped to give Amber a ride because it was drizzling that morning.

She told police she did not stop because she believed Amber was walking with a boy, Benton said. Both neighbors were seen on the school's security camera video dropping their kids off within minutes of each other, between 7:08 a.m. and 7:10 a.m.

The young man is described as tall and dark-skinned, about high school age. No one has come forward to identify him or even to verify he was walking with Amber and wasn't just someone walking past her.

Police said he may have been the last person to see her.

"To this day, we have yet to identify who this boy is," Benton said. "But we believe he holds the key to what happened to her."

This is from the other parent/witness who said they saw her almost every day walking to school, and the day she went missing.

Witnesses Spotted Missing Teen Near Farmyard Driveway

There's new information in the case of missing Escondido teenager Amber Dubois. Two parents who saw Amber walking to school on the day she disappeared tell the News 8 CrimeFighters she was last seen near the entrance to the school's farmyard.

David Wahlquist drives along North Broadway almost every morning to drop off his son and daughter at Escondido High School. It's the same route 14-year-old Amber Dubois used.

"I see her almost every day walking to school, so I recognize her by sight," Wahlquist said.

On Feb. 13, David remembers seeing Amber walking two blocks from the school around 7:10 a.m. - a full 20 minutes before the first bell.

"In fact, I remember thinking oh, she's a little bit early," he said.

The total distance of the route Amber takes from her home to the location of the school is less than a mile, north on Paradise Street, West on Vista Avenue and finally South on Broadway walking toward the school. It was here where two parents in different cars reported seeing Amber walking on the west side of the street.

"She was kind of jogging when I saw her and I thought she just looked like she was in a hurry," Wahlquist said.

Or...dodging a car that was following/lurking/stalking her?

That is the first I have heard of her jogging! I can't believe I missed that somehow.

Could she have possibly went into the farmyard to see her lamb?
Theres also no mention of anyone matching the description of this mystery boy entering the school.

It says there are cameras looking over the farm area although they are grainy. BTW, read the comment by "Guest" ( on March 04, 2009, 12:46:15 AM) on that article. It's appalling that they didn't treat Amber's disappearance more seriously. :(

We don't yet have any idea whether this guy is implicated or not. We are asking questions. He could be an innocent, a co-conspirator, or totally used by the perp. We just don't know. I am not drawing any conclusions prematurely.

First bell was at 7:30 and she was last seen about 7:09, perhaps a little earlier than usual (according to the one parent). The article above said that every morning she would meet her friends near the gym. I believe she had small valentine's gifts for them that day.

  • Was she going to go see her lamb in the farmyard?
  • Was she going to the administration office to provide the check for the lamb?
  • Was she going to meet her friends near the gym and give them valentine's?
I don't believe specifics were ever determined.

That truck has always bothered me. I know LE says they found the owner and the truck had nothing to do with Amber's abduction but I still look at the video and wonder.

Just a thought: Gardner wanted teenage victims. He was older now and that precluded him from attracting such a young woman into his trap. He was only 20 when he got the 13 yr. old to go to the apt. to ostensibly watch a movie with her, right? It wouldn't work now. He needed a young guy to get him the victim.

It's not of what he is accused of doing with Chelsea King. It does not appear to be his MO to use an accomplice.

Yes, this is why I think it was a teenage native boy. If JAG knew a boy from going to the casino, it wouldn't be uncommon for a native kid from a reservation to stay up all night hanging out with JAG and/or crash at his house. It's not a big deal on many reservations for the kids to skip/come late to school. A boy could have helped lure Amber in the morning while JAG was driving him back to the reservation. JAG might have demanded that the boy help hide Amber's body and then threatened him never to tell anyone. This could also explain why neither of the witnesses could identify the boy from Amber's high school (because he didn't attend there).
