A man's body was found in a rural area of Grayson County on Tuesday.

Someone found the body in a large toolbox near Spring Fork Bridge then notified the Sheriff's Office, according to K-105.

“And when I say a toolbox, one that you would put in the back of a truck, the width of a bed of a truck,” KSP Trooper Jeff Gregory said.

“It's strange, but there's a lot of hoopty-doo going on in this world, so it doesn't surprise me one little bit,” said Grayson County resident Tim Hughes.

“I’ve heard a lot of strange things,” Grayson County resident Keith Anderson said.

Neighbors said the area around the creek where the body was found is pretty quiet, rural and secluded.

“It's just farm country and peaceful most of the time,” Hughes said.

“Just some place for somebody to dump something they wanted to get rid of,” Anderson said.

Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson pronounced the male dead just before 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hudson said the individual had been deceased for some time, and the body was in such a state of decomposition that the male was not able to be identified on the scene.

The body of the male was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, and officials expect the preliminary autopsy results to be returned by Wednesday evening, Aug. 3, Gregory said.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by the Kentucky State Police.

Thanks for these updates. So, the victim has been deceased "for some time." I wonder how long....could "some time" be around the time of Kristen's murder, or longer?

Hopefully they can determine something about him from the autopsy. Any missing men from the area??

"I looked over and I thought it was a kayak."

She thought new piglets being born on her property would be the big story of the day in her family, that is until she spotted something.

"It was a blue tarp. I pulled the tarp off of it and it was a tool box."

Short Creek is a place Kim knew well, but this was something she'd never seen so she called a friend with diving experience.

"He opened up the toolbox and said, call 911 and the coroner, it is a body."

Colston said the tool box seemed to be stuck in a shallow part of the creek. As she got near she noticed powder in or around the tarp.

"My hairs are standing up. I can't even explain it," said Kim Colston less than one day later.

Details started to become more clear for Doug McKenna too, who was in the water along with Kim during the discovery.

"I saw like three rubber medical gloves. I told her we need to get back. She said let me see, so we turned it over and you could really smell it," recalled McKenna.

"It looked like duct tape rapped all the way around his face. It looked like he was tied up," said McKenna.

Hard to say as to how long.

ETA: The following man is missing from Grayson in Carter Co, KY and not Grayson County.

Paul Clifton Sigman was reported missing in [Corrected on edit] Carter County in December 2014.

Don't know about any others.

What would the powder be??

Looks like murder, not just an "accidental death" that was disposed of. You don't duct-tape and tie-up an accident that you want to hide.

So....who is missing?

My best guess on the powder would be lime.

Maybe the death is more recent than an initial evaluation of decomposition might indicate?

Totally guessing on my part.

I agree EDG, lime & the woman smelled something. May be more recent.

Is lime easy to purchase? I have no idea. Who would have lime handy....or who has purchased lime recently in the area?

I buy lime to keep the smell down in my chicken coop. I assume you can buy it at any hardware or feed store.

Yes, you can buy it at any garden store, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Most people use it to balance the ph of the soil in their yard. A lot of people buy it, its a common garden supply item.

From one of the LE quotes above, I had to smile. I haven't heard the expression "hoopty do" in a long time.

Here's what I'm wondering - If it has lime on it, why would someone cover the box in lime, then put it in the creek? And why would anyone put a box that large with a body in it in a creek? Creeks aren't very deep, aside from the occasional pool. I wonder if it was buried somewhere nearby and washed into the creek? Strange.

Yes, I like the "hoopty do" reference too. I use that phrase!

I wonder if the body was covered with lime in the box with the intention of hiding it on land...and only later dumped in the creek? It does seem weird to put powder in something you intended to submerge, but perhaps there was a lag time between the murder and the submerging.

Another clue would be...who is missing a big ol' toolbox?

.
You smiled about a particular wording, I smiled in amazement at another line. Thats what I call finders preserving a crime scene :)

If this isn't a hoopty do, it'll do until one gets here.

According to the Grayson County Coroner's office, the official cause of death is "multimodal asphyxiation" -- a form of death that would involve starving the body of oxygen using two or more different methods at the same time.

Kentucky State Police say a woman stumbled upon the decomposing body Tuesday while walking near Spring Fork Creek. That's near Lone Hill Road in Grayson County.

So not necessarily a rope and a pillow.

There's a photo at the link that gives a better indication of where the toolbox was found.

An Aug. 3 Facebook post by WDRB said it was discovered near Spring Fork Bridge.

Interesting screenshots of an article from Ohio County that may no longer be online.

I'm getting a 404 message when I hit the url that a search brings up for the article.
Located the article, but it is paywalled.

A multiagency investigation was underway Wednesday to see if there is a connection between the disappearance of Tromain J. Mackall, an Ohio County man who was reported missing July 25, and the body of man found Tuesday evening stuffed in a toolbox in Grayson County.

Ohio County sheriff's deputies are still working Mackall's disappearance as a missing person's case, but detectives from the sheriff's department and other agencies were sent to Grayson County on Tuesday after a man's body was found inside a large truck toolbox near Rough River.

I was able to read enough of the paywalled article to confirm that the screen shot of the article is authentic and that the article states that the victim in Grayson County is African American.

No official identification yet according to that article.
