Niner, I need to get that Tshirt for my DH, he's an old car buff. :) And love the jokes! Where do you find this stuff? :floorlaugh: :happydance:

I like these:
You can tell a lot about a woman’s mood just by her hands. For instance if they are holding a gun, she’s probably angry.:floorlaugh:
Sometimes in work-out class I pretend to work out, when really I’m using every muscle in my body to keep from farting. Say What?!!!

Which reminds me, what was that, CoffeeJ about Dmacky needs to let you know if she's having gas ?! Did you say that?! No, Dmacky, don't you DARE tell her!!!:laughcry:

You guys remind me of the Golden Girls, LOL, you totally crack me up!!! :floorlaugh: I really needed to laugh tonight after spending way too much time over on
Deorr's thread. It's kind of a downer in more ways than one. :(

Oh, Dmacky, have you tried Cerave lotion? It's wonderful and not irritating, there's A.M., P.M., and they make a couple of other more intensive face creams. Most drug stores and Walmarts carry them.

Love you guys, you're the best! And thanks for the laugh therapy!
Mornin Gigi,
I am also Australia. I definitely have a colorful family tree. Although I'm not too sure how fascinating or interesting alcoholics are :giggle:

Thanks for the tip on Cerave lotion, I'll definitely give it a try. I have spent so much money on moisturizers it's "rediculous."
I never thought I'd ever say this, but I actually miss my greasy forehead. After trying all the expensive ones, I resorted to coconut oil, ( all the oils really) and even Criso LARD!
So I'm not a lard-*advertiser censored*, just a lard-face.
LOLOLOL > I just TRIED to type lardass and my autocorrect changed it to Kardashian  :laughcry: I had to hyphen it.

And don't worry Gigi, I won't tell coffeejunkie....It'll be a sneak attack, and she may have to run for cover

PS ~ I wrote you a long post yesterday about your post on permanent eyebrows. When I hit reply, I got a message that the forum was closed  I didn't have time to retype it, so I'll do that later on today. I want to get back to my computer first. I don't like using a phone!

Dmacky ~ FYI...it was 1:40 MY time, thank you very much. Are you jealous that I had one of my 56 boyfriends here? huh?

Seriously, Squeakers woke me up and I was awake and came on here :) I did go back to bed.

Juveniles given life sentences for murder win high court reprieve

"WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court offered a chance for freedom Monday to hundreds of convicted murderers given mandatory sentences of life without parole for crimes they committed as juveniles.

The justices ruled 6-3 that child killers locked away for life as long as a half century ago deserve the same consideration as those under 18 who commit murders today. The court ruled in 2012 that mandatory life sentences for juveniles violated the Constitution.

The decision means that as many as 1,500 prisoners, some convicted when they were as young as 13, can seek reduced sentences or apply for parole. States retain the right to uphold life sentences, but they no longer can be mandatory.

Most of those affected are consolidated in a few states — notably Louisiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania. They are serving life sentences without the possibility of parole for crimes some of them committed decades ago when they were teenagers..."

‘Making a Murderer’: What Happens Next?

"You swore you’d just watch one episode — just to see what everyone was talking about. One turned into two and two turned into three. And before you knew it, the weekend was over and all you accomplished was correctly spelling “Manitowoc” when you started frantically Googling the people and places that were the main subject of Making a Murderer.

It’s okay. You’re not alone. Since this addictive ten-part crime documentary hit Netflix on December 18, it seems like everyone and their mother has binged the series. And we’ve all been left breathless as a result. It’s hard not to keep watching — at times, the details presented in Making a Murderer seem almost impossible. And the fact that Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey are still fighting for exoneration makes the series’ impact all the more compelling. Wondering what will happen to the defendants now?

Here’s what’s next for the people that made Making a Murderer, one of the most talked about series in America..."

Jury Selection Gets Underway In ‘Grim Sleeper’ Killings

"LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A judge questioned nearly six dozen prospective jurors Monday in the trial of a man charged in the “Grim Sleeper” killings of nine women and a teenage girl between 1985 and 2007.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kathleen Kennedy told the prospective panelists the trial will be a “complicated” case that has “garnered a fair amount of publicity.”...

Franklin, a 63-year-old one-time city employee, is charged with the murders of nine women – who were mostly in their 20s – and a 15-year-old girl. The bodies were dumped in alleys and trash bins in and around South Los Angeles, Inglewood and unincorporated county areas. He is also charged with the attempted murder of another woman.

The killings occurred between 1985 and 1988, and 2002 and 2007, with the assailant dubbed the “Grim Sleeper” because of the apparent 13-year break between killing sprees...

The trial is expected to last about three months."

Man to be executed for Texas game warden's death in shootout

"HOUSTON — A man who led authorities on a chase followed by a shootout that left a Texas game warden dead is scheduled to be executed this week in the busy death penalty state...

Freeman's execution set for Wednesday would be the state's second this year. Texas carries out capital punishment more than any other state, having lethally injected 13 convicted killers in 2015, which accounted for nearly half of the 28 executions nationwide.

Freeman, 34, is one of at least eight Texas prisoners with execution dates in the coming months. Another inmate is set to die in two weeks.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Jan. 11 refused to review Freeman's case and his attorney, Don Vernay, doesn't expect any new appeals attempting to block the lethal injection. The high court wouldn't look at Freeman's appeals that lower courts had rejected. The appeals argued Freeman had deficient legal help at his 2008 trial.

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles turned down a clemency request from Freeman on Monday..."

Ammon Bundy Arrested, Follower Killed, During Confrontation With Law Enforcement In Oregon

"Ammon Bundy, leader of the month-long militant occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns, Oregon, was arrested Tuesday in a highway confrontation with law enforcement that killed one of his followers and wounded another, according to the FBI.

Bundy and four followers, including his brother, Ryan, were arrested during a traffic stop in which shots were fired, the FBI said in a statement. Killed was Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, who had acted as spokesman for the armed group of occupiers, according to the Bundy Ranch...

Cliven Bundy, the Arizona rancher who butted heads with the federal government in 2014, decried the arrest of two of his sons in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
"We believe that those federal people shouldn’t even be there in that state, and be in that county and have anything to do with this issue," he said. "... Now we’ve got one killed, and all I can say is, he’s sacrificed for a good purpose.”.."

St. Louis Circuit Attorney to retry Reginald Clemons

"ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - More than two months after the Missouri Supreme Court tossed out a pair of murder convictions against a man who sat on death row for more than 20 years, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office intends to retry Reginald Clemons for an infamous double-murder case at the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge.

Clemons was one of four people tried and convicted in the April 1991 rape and murder of sisters Julie and Robin Kerry. Clemons, who was convicted on two counts of first-degree murder, was sentenced to death in 1993.

St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce said she believes modern DNA testing supports the prosecution's original case.

In addition to the murder charges, Clemons will also face charges of forcible rape and first-degree robbery when he goes back to trial.

Clemons will still be eligible for the death penalty, Joyce said..."

Michele Anderson’s trial in 2007 Carnation slayings starts Monday

"Michele Anderson won’t face the death penalty if convicted of killing six members of her family in rural Carnation on Christmas Eve 2007 — but the jurors who will decide her guilt or innocence aren’t allowed to know that.

Though a jury was chosen Jan. 13 for Anderson’s aggravated-first-degree-murder trial, the judge and attorneys in the case had to walk a “strange little tightrope,” careful not to violate state law by revealing her possible punishment during the jury-selection process.

King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg had initially sought the death penalty against Anderson, now 37, but he changed his mind in July following two other aggravated-murder trials in which separate juries did not impose death sentences...

...Anderson’s trial is expected to last six weeks. Opening statements, originally scheduled for Jan. 19, were postponed until Monday after a new potential witness came forward..."

Emotional testimony in trial of Michele Anderson, accused of killing 6 family members

"SEATTLE -- Michele Anderson, accused of killing six members of her family, faced a jury on Monday for the first time.

Anderson’s sister, Mary Victoria, took the stand and said her sister threatened to kill her parents in the past but she didn’t take it seriously.

Mary Victoria said she did tell their parents about Anderson’s rants when they happened.

“Who thinks family is going to kill family? So I didn’t think it was serious, she was angry,” Mary Victoria said.

The prosecution gave their opening statement Monday morning and then called the lead detective who was at the scene of the horrific slayings..."

2007 Carnation murders

"The Carnation murders were a mass murder that occurred on December 24, 2007, near Carnation, Washington, a small rural town 25 miles east of Seattle. The murders took place in the home of Wayne Scott Anderson and Judy Anderson....

Crime
According to testimony, McEnroe and Anderson armed themselves and drove their pickup to the home of her parents, Wayne Anderson, 60, and Judy Anderson, 61, on the afternoon of Dec. 24, 2007.

Once inside, McEnroe distracted Judy Anderson, who was wrapping Christmas gifts, while Michele shot her father. After Michele’s gun jammed, McEnroe then killed Wayne and Judy Anderson.

The two then hid the bodies and carefully cleaned the home and waited for Michele Anderson’s older brother, Scott, his wife, Erica, both 32, and their two young children.
Once the family arrived, Michele Anderson shot her brother. McEnroe then shot Erica Anderson and the children, 5-year-old Olivia and 3-year-old Nathan, because he didn’t want witnesses.

The bodies were discovered two days later when a co-worker of Judy Anderson’s went to the home to see why she was absent from work. While King County detectives were at the property, McEnroe and Michele Anderson drove up and were questioned and arrested.

Prosecutors told jurors the motive for the killings was money and Anderson’s belief she had been slighted and mistreated by her parents and brother...

Jury selected in trial of accused serial killer 'Son of Sal,' but defendant's outbursts may keep him out of the courtroom

"The accused serial killer dubbed “Son of Sal” has a 12-person jury that will determine his fate — but it’s uncertain if he’ll ever see their faces.

The second day of jury selection began Wednesday with a judge ordering Salvatore Perrone removal from the courtroom after another outburst.

The sinister wacko, who faces 75 years to life for killing three Middle Eastern shopkeepers in 2012, had sought to represent himself at trial. But Justice Alan Marrus appointed Howard Kirsch’s as the unstable defendant’s attorney.

Perrone was unhappy with that arrangement, and made that clear to the judge — out of the presence of potential jurors.

“Mr. Perrone, I want to know if you will stay here, remain quiet while the jurors are present for the rest of the trial? For the record, Mr. Perrone called his attorney a prostitute and a dumb dumb and refused to remain in the courtroom so I removed him," said the judge, recalling the spectacle in his courtroom on Tuesday.

Perrone, 66, remained outraged..."

Suspect, 19, Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of Brooklyn Teenager

"Police officials on Saturday announced the arrest of a man wanted for the stabbing death of a teenager in Brooklyn last week that investigators now believe was the culmination of a quarrel over an exchange of text messages.

The suspect, Dante Malay, 19, turned himself in on Friday afternoon to officers of the 90th Precinct in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, accompanied by his mother and stepfather, a police spokesman said. He was charged with manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Witnesses were able to identify Mr. Malay in a lineup as the man who stabbed Jovani Cubias, 17, several times in the chest on Wednesday during an altercation that investigators say started as a fight between two young women thought to be romantically involved with the two men..."

"...A day after Jovani’s death, his mother, Blanca Cubias, an immigrant from El Salvador who works as a cleaning woman, sat in largely mute disbelief on Jovani’s disheveled bed in his room in the family’s large apartment in East Flatbush. When she did speak, it was in hiccupping gasps. “My baby. My best baby!” said Ms. Cubias, 44. “My son has died! He’s no more.”

The police provided few details about the nature of the altercation other than to say the victim and his attacker knew each other. But as his family and friends gathered around the kitchen table at his home on Thursday, they described recent events in Jovani’s life that had worried them..."

Abe Vigoda, ‘Barney Miller’ and ‘The Godfather’ star who was often subject of death hoaxes, dies at 94

"Abe Vigoda died Tuesday at 94.

Abe Vigoda is dead. Really.

The dour-faced, slouch-shouldered New York-born actor who always looked like he had one foot in the grave — and who had long been rumored to be pushing up daisies — finally stepped into it when he died Tuesday morning. He was 94.

The long-time television fixture’s daughter, Carol Vigoda Fuchs, told the Associated Press her father passed away peacefully in his sleep while staying at her Woodland Park, New Jersey, home..."

RIP: ABE VIGODA

"...Vigoda, who always looked a bit older than his actual age, also played along with what became a running joke: premature reports of his death. In 1982, People magazine mistakenly printed a story that referred to him as “the late” Abe Vigoda, which prompted him to pose, sitting up, in a coffin, holding a copy of People, for a photo that ran inVariety to prove he was very much alive.

Various TV reports, late-night TV hosts David Letterman and Conan O’Brien, and numerous Websites either mistakenly reported his death or poked fun at the idea that he was frequently the subject of such rumors. A pair of Websites — Abe Vigoda Status and Is Abe Vigoda Dead? — exist solely to keep tabs on whether or not he’s still alive, and Vigoda won a whole new fanbase for his good humor and longevity as faux reports of his death became a meme..."

How The New York Times and the American public, managed to ignore the Holocaust
Reporting on the Times (video- 18 min.)

"While many Americans assume that the Holocaust was a well-kept secret until the concentration camps were liberated, anyone with a New York Times subscription could have read about the atrocities during the Second World War. Regrettably, though, the persecution and murder of Jews was frequently buried by the ‘paper of record’. Of more than 23,000 front-page articles between 1939 and 1945, just 26 were about the Holocaust. This powerful documentary from the US director Emily Harrold recounts how and why the genocide of Jews was neglected and euphemised by the Times, and by extension, the American people."

Parents of missing 2-year-old Idaho boy named suspects in his disappearance after being ‘less than truthful,’ sheriff says

"A missing toddler’s parents have been named suspects in his disappearance after being “less than truthful,” a central Idaho sheriff said Monday.

DeOrr Kunz Jr., 2, vanished July 10 from his family’s campsite close to the Montana border at Timber Creek Campground. The boy’s parents, Jessica Mitchell and DeOrr Kunz Sr., have been “less than truthful” under questioning and polygraph tests, and investigators believe the couple knows where their little boy is and whether he’s alive, said Lemhi County Sheriff Lynn Bowerman.

“They’re not able to tell the same story twice because they’ve told so many stories,” Bowerman told KTVB-TV. “We’re getting changes in the stories all the time.”.."

Who Knows Best

"The state said a 19-year-old with an intellectual disability wasn’t equipped to look after her baby and whisked the newborn off to another family just after birth—a decision the mother was ready to fight. But how smart do you have to be to raise a child?...

Thirty-seven states still have laws on the books that make a disability reason enough to terminate a person’s parental rights, according to a groundbreaking investigation called “Rocking the Cradle” published by the National Council on Disability in September 2012,...

... in the 1980s, a psychologist in Toronto named Maurice Feldman began to study the mothering capabilities of these women in earnest, trying both to locate and to remediate their gaps in functioning. And he found that while most of the intellectually disabled mothers he studied failed to meet a minimum standard of care when endeavoring to accomplish parenting’s most basic tasks—treating diaper rash, cleaning baby bottles, and providing regular, nutritious meals — with the right kind of intervention, they could also succeed...

Parenting demands so many different kinds of ability that most of us start, at least, with some kind of deficit. But how much deficit is too much? At what point do a mother’s limitations disqualify her from being a mother?...

Even Feldman, who believes that most women with intellectual disabilities can become good-enough mothers, refuses to say for sure. When he makes a clinical assessment in a custody proceeding, he always says, “It depends.”..

Buckland is the executive director of the National Council on Independent Living in Washington, D.C. “I really wanted to do something nationally,” he told me. “This is the most fundamental of human rights: the ability to reproduce and raise your children.” It’s not that all disabled people make good parents, Buckland told me, it’s that their parenting should be assessed on the merits and not on the basis of their disability..."

Okay, stepping into the fray here (since we don't have YesorNO):

Here's a quiz for you: What Island are You?

http://www.quizony.com/what-island-are-you/index.html

My results are below:

------------------------

You are:

Australia

You are unique. Forthright and fun, you make a great friend. You are outdoorsy and lively, even boisterous at times. You care about the environment and are interested in unusual and endangered animals. You may have a colourful family tree.

____________________

Okay, these things are just funny-fun things. But I DO feel like Australia, in a way... not so much with the outdoorsy stuff, though...

I wonder about what kind of algorithms they employ for these faux quizzes...

ETA: I was really hoping for an island in the Caribbean...

I am:

"You are The United Kingdom
You are the essence of cool. At first glance, you may seem ordinary, even reserved, but you have a fascinating past. And while you are always scrupulously polite, once people get to know you, they are completely taken in by your wit and charm. You are a fan of football. And you appreciate a nice cup of tea."

World marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day

"BERLIN — Wednesday is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the date the United Nations has chosen to commemorate victims of the Holocaust during World War II. Six million Jews were murdered by Germany's Nazi regime, along with 5 million non-Jews who were killed.

The anniversary, marked each year since 2005, falls on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp in Poland by the Russian army in 1945. One million people died there.

Here is how countries around the world are marking the 71st anniversary:..."

Holocaust Victims Honored 71 Years After Auschwitz Liberated

"Dozens of elderly Holocaust survivors lit candles at Auschwitz on Wednesday, exactly 71 years after the Soviet army liberated the death camp that has become the most powerful symbol of the human suffering inflicted by Nazi Germany during World War II.

The commemoration at the former death camp in southern Poland, an area under Nazi occupation during the war, is part of the U.N.-designated International Remembrance Day, marked by politicians, survivors and others in ceremonies and events across the world..."

90-year-old Holocaust survivor turns tragedy into dance (with video)

"“You must learn how to live with your traumas. You don’t need to let them drive you mad, like many do,” Eva Fahidi said in a clip from the upcoming documentary “Crying Will Get You Nowhere.”

“I cannot afford to let them make me unhappy, because they are beyond my control. And I do want to be happy, you see.”

She’s 90 now and an Auschwitz survivor. But when she’s dancing, Fahidi is 18 again, as she replays the carefree days in Hungary before the horror. Then her youthful motions slow, the lights dim and a black-clad figure enters the stage..."

Good Afternoon my lovely SB friends. The sun is out and the snow is melting, the cold wind blowing. I haven't set a foot outside since last Friday. My German Shepherds are loving the snow and spend so much time out back, running and playing.

I can't seem to get out of bed today, so I am accepting that today is another grieving day. Yesterday, the tears wouldn't stop. I don't know if anyone has ever felt this way, but do you ever feel like you use up a whole box of bandaids putting them on to cover the metaphorical hurt, the wound, the cut? I feel like I have used so many over the years and they all just got ripped off.

I am grieving not just the loss of my beloved horse, but the years of losses, pain, disappointments and disillusionments. I am raw. I haven't allowed myself to feel this raw in years, because bandaids were a whole lot more convenient to assuage the pain and hurt. I am seeking solace where I can, albeit a temporary reprieve. The old adage that time heals all wounds must have been said before the invention of bandaids.

How do you let go? I am in pain avoidance mode that is completely malfunctioning. I recognize that my PTSD has been triggered and the more I try to regain control, the more out of inner control I feel.

No one but you all even know about any of this, because I don't share this in my daily life. Therapy has put a logical spin on things, but does the emotional part ever really heal? Or will it only ever be just perspective I can hope for?

I know you all have been in this place at one point or another. I know many of you have bandaids too, holding the broken pieces together, that no one ever sees. I have decided to move on to duct tape instead of bandaids. Because yes, I have 87,000 rolls of that too.

Thank you all for being here for me. You are loved.

((((zuri))))

:moo: We all grieve on our own schedule, and sometimes it's just a watershed when our body and mind needs to let it out.

Let it out Zuri ...xoxoxoxo...Fall if you need to as we here are sure to catch you ... we are here for you.

:grouphug: :grouphug:

Before I had friends at Websleuths, I had neighbors who heard me wailing for a week out my back door. They heard my screams, they heard by pain... And they came to take care of me and wrap their arms around me... and let me know that my screaming and wailing ... That's a good thing in letting it all out.

Crying out for help to God ( actually I wasn't saying nice things to God at that time.. And my neighbors probably heard every bad word) and others is a good thing...yet so painful
