GUILTY NC - Wendy Johnson, 58, shot to death in Cary parking lot, 22 Aug 2014

Danielle Schnurr was waiting on a night nurse to help her daughter with disabilities when she heard a gunshot outside of her apartment. "I heard a gunshot. Obviously, I was not going outside," she said.

Cary 911 dispatchers received at least nine calls about the shooting. "I just heard a girl yelling for someone to get away, to stop, stop, get away, and then you heard a pop, and then more yelling," one caller said...

As police and paramedics arrived to the scene, Schnurr said she started worrying about the night nurse who had not yet arrived. "Then I realized that her car was in the parking lot already, and it was the car that police were looking at," Schnurr said.

A man charged with murder in the death of a home health care nurse in Cary on Friday night told police he shot her while trying to steal her purse, according to a search warrant made public Wednesday.

Prosecutors announced at a Wake County quarterly review of all pending homicide cases that they plan to seek the death penalty for Daniel Scott Remington Jr., 36, of Gooseneck Drive in Cary, who is accused of shooting Wendy Jean Johnson, 58 of Post Oak Lane in Sanford in August 2014...

Along with Remington, Jessica Parrisher, 28, of Cary was charged with felony accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. According to her arrest warrant, Parrisher knowingly provided false statements to Cary police detectives regarding Remington's admission to her that he had murdered Johnson.

A man who shot and killed a nurse during a 2014 robbery in Cary avoided a possible death sentence Tuesday by pleading guilty in a Wake County courtroom.
