Thank you.

Well I really should have said Mt. Pleasant to be specific but they always just say Charleston because a lot of people don't recognize MP as well as they do Charleston.

I just hope both Jose and Maria doesn't come close to the east coast but I am afraid Maria will.

After work everyday this week my hubby has come in and has been working on all the huge limbs that were down. There was many more than we first thought.

The insurance adjuster came out about our gazebo roof and hubby and friends will erect a new roof. It was wood and shingles before the storm and he is going to put an insulated dark gray metal roof on it this time.

Do we still have any posters who haven't posted since the hurricanes?

I live further from the coast than your daughter....Goose Creek. About 40 minutes from her. I'm at the backside of the evacuation zone. We stayed for Matthew. But packing my bags for cat3 or higher.

Didn't realize you had so many limbs and trees down in your area. We had that for Matthew. The metal roof should hold up better and look really good.

Spellbound has a list on the Irma thread...I think we are still waiting on a few more.

Oh Henry...., I sure hope you don't have to pack your bags and leave us for any time. you have been such a help here. be well, be prepared, and do what you must.

I am concerned about our Puerto Rico friend here .... think about Archangel every day now. Grateful to have this place to keep track of what is happening.

Thanks a ton Spell- I worry for our Puerto Rican friend too. Not a good situation.

A positive thing....the GFS and Canadian models shifted the eye North of the islands. So a slight jog one way or the other can help tremendously.

Hurricane Maria Takes Aim at Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands
by Tim Stelloh, Jason Cumming and Rachel Elbaum

A hurricane watch was issued for Puerto Rico early Monday as Maria left residents of Irma-battered Caribbean islands racing to prepare for yet another potentially powerful storm.

Maria was about 85 miles east of Martinique at 8 a.m. ET, according to the National Hurricane Center. It had maximum sustained winds of 110 mph and could develop into a major hurricane by Monday night or early Tuesday, it added...

And for the first time in 85 years, Puerto Rico is expected to suffer a direct landfall from a Category 4 hurricane.

Puerto Rico's governor has declared a state of emergency ahead of the landfall, which will likely happen Wednesday.

Puerto Rico's governor ordered evacuations Monday ahead of Tuesday's deteriorating conditions. "Our call is for people to evacuate areas that are prone to floods and landslides, in addition to vulnerable structures. It is time to seek refuge with a family member, friend, or move to a state shelter because rescuers will not go out and risk their lives once winds reach 50 miles per hour."

Maria's size means all of Puerto Rico will experience hurricane conditions.

my gosh, how much can these people take? This is getting scarier by the hour.

This is a great comparison of Maria's path compared to Irma's path (the gold line). The forecast to day expects the path to intersect but head in opposite directions.

Thought I would look up the last cat4 to hit Puerto Rico 85 years ago....this is what I found. Hope much they are better prepared now.

The*1932 San Ciprian hurricane*was a powerful*Atlantic*tropical cyclone*that struck*Puerto Rico*during the*1932 Atlantic hurricane season. The ninth tropical cyclone, fourth hurricane and third major hurricane of the 1932 season,[1]*the San Ciprian Hurricane formed on September 25 east of the*Leeward Islands*and moved due west where it quickly gained hurricane strength a day later. After peaking as *advertiser censored*Category 4 storm, the hurricane crossed the entire length of*Puerto Rico*at Category*4 strength. The hurricane later struck the*Dominican Republicas a Category*1 storm. Weakened by its three landfalls, the storm continued to trek westward as a weak tropical storm before making its fourth and fifth landfalls in*Belize*and mainland*Mexico. The storm then dissipated on October 3.[1]
Overall damage in*Puerto Rico*was catastrophic as the storm left $30*million (1932*USD, $443*million 2006*USD) and 225-257 fatalities.*

All three models today (GFS, Euro, GEM) forecast a possible occurrence that doesn't occur very often...

Fujiwhara Effect

The*Fujiwhara effect, sometimes referred to as*Fujiwara interaction or binary interaction, is when two nearby cyclonic vortices orbit each other and close the distance between the circulations of their corresponding low-pressure areas.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujiwhara_effect

The forecast indicates that Jose may make a turn South, pick up Maria, and take her out to sea with him. We can only hope....how convoluted.

Is this similiar to Sandy when two systems collided ?

Now there will be more projectiles and less drainage too...

and people that have no where to be but be in the middle of it with no shelter

horrid

already tired hungry probably sick and frail

A bit different. Sandy moved around an*upper-level low*over the eastern United States and also to the southwest of a ridge over*Atlantic Canada, turning it to the northwest.

Jose and Maria are full fledge hurricanes doing a dance in the Atlantic.

7:33pm] Recon finds an estimated pressure of 926mb and surface winds of 160 mph in #Maria's northwestern eyewall.

Dominica to suffer direct hit tonight.

I've been there. Its a lovely island. Reminded me of the island they used in the King Kong movie with Jessica Lange. Its mountainous and gives an alure of the jungle. Can't imagine what it will look like tomorrow.... Sad
