House shared by man, his mentally handicapped adult son, and the skeletal remains of his father.

This one has given me chuckles for two years because it's so bizarre. Man claims he was distraught after Hurricane Katrina and didn't know what to do, so he closed his father's bedroom door and left him there for nearly two years! (He didn't know what to do always gives me giggles. Duh, call LE. :doh

"He died. I couldn't deal with it so I just left him there. I blocked it out of my mind. I was stressed out after Katrina. I just, just don't know."

You'd think somewhere in the course of his prestigious Catholic education, he would have learned when someone dies, A) you call LE, B) a corpse decomposes, C) it's not nice to pretend your father never existed when he's lying dead in a bedroom of your house! :banghead:

"I know how bad it looks, but I didn't kill him," Adams, dressed in an orange jail jumpsuit and chained to four other inmates, told Judge Conn Regan of the 24th Judicial Court during the sentencing hearing at the Jefferson Parish Courthouse in Gretna.

And Baez whines because Casey Anthony has to attend hearings in shackles all by herself. :shakehead:

Chad Adams, 36, testified he wants his father released from jail, but conceded that while under his father's care, he often went hungry and ate "mayonaise [sic] sandwiches."

Nice guy. We can't blame this on "lower class" standards. He attended very good schools and lived in a very nice neighborhood. For shame.

Lon Adams, convicted of killing elderly father, sentenced to 20 years in prison

Before handing down his sentence, [Judge] Regan said Adams initially told the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office he didn't know what happened to his father. Adams' explanations changed afterwards, including the version - that the elder Adams fell on a chest beside his bed - lacked credibility, the judge said.

"I didn't believe his story then. I don't believe his story now," Regan said.

Son tells jury that denial caused him to neglect father's body

Lon Adams, the Metairie man accused of killing his father, Leroy Adams Sr., and harboring the decomposing body in his home for more than two years, took the witness stand in his second-degree murder trial Thursday night and wept as he told jurors that he believed for some time that he'd accidentally killed his "daddy."

"I couldn't admit to myself that I might have accidentally killed daddy, and I don' think I could have admitted it to anybody else, " said Adams, who told the court he last saw his father alive in the spring of 2006.

And for that same reason, Adams said he misled authorities who questioned him after the discovery of Leroy Adams' skeletal remains on June 3, 2008. He said he could not confront his father's death.

After repeatedly telling Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives he couldn’t remember when he last saw his father alive, Lon Adams admitted he fell on Leroy Adams Sr., his forearm landing on the elder man's throat, one night while putting his father to bed in the second quarter of 2006, according to recordings played in court today.

Lon Adams told detectives he left his father curled up under a blanket and closed the door to the upstairs bedroom of his Metairie house.

“It’s because I cared for him so much. I know it doesn’t seem like it,” Adams said in the statement. “I had a great deal of difficulty dealing with his death, and I think I blocked out a lot of things like the smell, anything else concerning his death, I’ve blocked it out.”

"Autopsy results would later show that the elder Adams’ had 32 fractures to bones in his rib cage, neck, hands, back and foot, all which occurred at or near the time of death."

Now serving his sentence in Rayburn Correctional Center, Angie, Louisiana.

I guess every community has its share of bizarre stories.

Florida hasn't quite cornered the market.

IMHO. I find this story to be sad and heartbreaking, not at all funny, and certainly not something to LOL about. It sounds as if the man didn't know what to do emotionally; he had difficulty dealing with the stress of Katrina and acknowledging his father's death. I'm sure he intellectually knew what to do (call LE, arrange a funeral, celebrate his father's life), he just wasn't emotionally capable of handling it. Many people who experience the death of a loved one find facing that fact to be extremely difficult if not impossible.

Well, to be honest, those of us who lived and suffered through Katrina, had to bury loved ones not long after, all knew how to cope, arrange the funerals, and do things properly. Of course, we probably didn't all KILL our loved ones and leave them to rot. We did learn to laugh at the mold, dig in and tear out our walls, replace ALL our furniture, find new jobs because our old ones were washed away, and are STILL coping with an area that hasn't returned to it's former self because the recovery is still active. I can't feel sorry for someone who KILLED his own father and couldn't bother with "the problem".

The humor comes in because in my mind, I guessed the guy figured, since the whole area reeks away, no one would notice the smell.

fyi, the original post that I replied to did not mention possible murder. And feeling sorry for him is much different from finding the situation laughable, or chuckable as you put it. As I said before IMHO.
