Yes, rabbits are as smart as any cat and dog. Rabbit owners know how smart they are. Unfortunately rabbits are on the menu for every carnivore - that is the reason they have such large litters of kits and breed several times a year. They plague in most countries unfortunately and that includes New Zealand. It is such a shame because they are cute, smart, they don't make a mess and be trained just like any cat and dog. BUT - they plague.

Please note that these are not actually wild rabbits, but feral. Rabbits were introduced to New Zealand & are a big problem in some parts of the ecosystem:
