GUILTY Australia - Jill Meagher, 29, Melbourne, 22 Sep 2012 #6

It's Still outrageous but at least not as bad as the link above^^
Sharifi, who pleaded guilty to rape, will serve a sentence that includes his jailing for the second sexual attack. It was DNA from that second offence that led to him being charged with the earlier rape of the teenager.

With a maximum sentence of 14 years set, he will have to serve a minimum of 11 years and will be eligible for parole in seven years and eight months.

He is likely to be deported back to Afghanistan when he has served his sentence

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear... who on earth appoints these IDIOTS as judges? All I can say is "WOW!!"

http://frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/australian-judge-finds-muslim-cultural-differences-valid-excuse-for-rape/

Eh. He's been granted leave to appeal. For obvious reasons the standard is set pretty low for getting leave to appeal and the judges have a tendency to allow people who genuinely believe in a hopeless argument access to appeal... really the only people that part of the process the requirement to seek leave to appeal is meant to exclude are those that not only have nothing much to add but are also appealing purely because they are bored and want a trip to court or who just want to jerk their victims around.

By HAL9000: For all those outraged at the Victorian Parole system:

Hi all,
I stumbled across this Herald Sun law blog from April 2012 which may be of interest.

"Concerns about the efficiency of the state’s parole system were first raised when the Herald Sun disclosed a year ago that a confidential police report had found that 11 Victorians had been murdered by parolees in less than 2 years."

http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/l...ife_and_death/

I also understand the recent murder of a young mother in Ballarat is yet another likely to be added to these statistics, as indicated in the article mentioned by the previous poster. Something very seriously has to change in the way dangerous prisoners are dealt with here in Victoria. There should be ZERO acceptable level of repeat violence once a person is already established as a potential danger to the community, and the people who are setting these vicious creatures loose need to be held accountable for poor judgement and negligent decisions. I hope the Cafferkey family taking legal action helps bring this into the mainstream for debate so that in the future thugs like Hunter and Bayley et al don't get the chance to do any more damage than they've already done.
Power to the Cafferkey family :rocker:

Well said Hal9000 IMO.

Back in court (via video link) today in relation to other offences. Gutless Pr!ck has pleaded not guilty.

A 41-year-old man has faced the Melbourne Magistrates Court and pleaded not guilty to multiple rape charges.

Adrian Bayley from Coburg made a brief appearance in court via video link from the Melbourne Assessment Prison for a committal mention today.

He is facing 12 charges, including five charges of rape, three counts of false imprisonment, several charges of assault and a charge of making a threat to kill.

Bayley is accused of carrying out the offences in the St Kilda area dating as far back as 2000.

Magistrate Gerard Lethbridge ruled there was sufficient weight for him to be directed to stand trail on all charges.

Bayley pleaded not guilty to each count and will face the County Court next month.

Adrian Bayley, the Australian bodybuilder who pleaded guilty to raping and murdering Irish journalist Jill Meagher, was at the time on parole for raping five prostitutes.

Bayley, 41, pleaded guilty in the Victorian Supreme Court to killing the 29-year-old Irish expat from Drogheda, Co. Louth, as she walked home from a bar in the inner-north suburb of Brunswick last September. He now potentially faces life in prison.

Meagher's mother-in-law told the Daily Mail that Bayley should not have had the chance to brutally rape and murder Jill at all because he was out on parole for the rape of five prostitutes.

"I should be in jail anyway, you know. I shouldn’t have been let out last time – simple. And I say that in the hope someone hears that and they don’t ever let me out again. How many chances does a person need?"

I hadn't heard that little bit yet... Unless I just missed it. I wonder if they released more of the confession in Ireland?

I am in Ireland, and read that statement some time ago. Not sure if we are getting more in depth info or not, but I definitely read that part.

It is possible that some information has been supressed in the Victorian media due to further charges & further court appearances for this offender. Overseas and interstate media may have more detailed information than Victoria. This offender has a Directions hearing in the County Court on May 21st, 2013 when a trial date will be set to hear those further charges.

I recall reading that part of the interview not long after he was arrested...could have even been the following day. Further sections of the interview were reported again in March...

Yeah I think I must have just missed it. I'd read things along those lines, just not that actual sentence. I'm in the UK and haven't read much more, but I don't think they covered it much over here, just in Ireland.

From The Age:

''When the police later searched Mr Bayley's Coburg home they allegedly found clothing Ms Meagher had been wearing on the night..''

After reading the below information I can only guess what the creep intended by keeping items of her clothing.

''What's interesting is that they often give the souvenir - particularly jewelry - to a significant other. The recipient could be the wife or girlfriend who was causing the subject grief at the time of the crime or was involved in a confrontation with him.''

http://mindhuntersinc.com/why-killers-take-trophies/

And from wikipedia some insight into types of rapist:

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_rape

''Prostitutes or other people whom they believe to be 'promiscuous' are often the sadistic rapist's targets. The victims of a sadistic rapist may not survive the attack. For some offenders the ultimate satisfaction is gained from murdering the victim.''

Jmbr, I hadn't read that Bayley quote in its entirety either. I truly hope any sentencing judge takes fully into account the creep's personal statement regarding how many chances a person should get. Anyone who acknowledges by their own words that they are not fit to be in the community should be carefully listened to.
