A lot of the confusion seems to come from popular literature for the lay person. For example, Robert Hare uses the term 'psychopath" while Martha Stout uses the term "sociopath" when they are seemingly talking about the same sort of personality down to superficial charm, lack of empathy and manipulative behavior.



Having been in a relationship with a bona fide Borderline Personality, the idea of a more virulent strain scares me.

Its roots go back to a French researcher in 1801 and was called moral insanity for the better part of a century with few variations. It was first called sociopathy in 1909 which would be used by the APA for the DSM in 1952. The next edition dropped the term.

Every researcher has their pet theory as to differences, if any, though. I think the broadened classification is a really good idea - it blends all the knowns of psychopathic and antisocial behaviors without the exclusion of psychopathic features in the DSM-IV which has only led to many assuming psychopathy isn't valid; ASPD is a required diagnosis for psychopathy; or, even worse, that ASPD is the very same thing.

Having been in a relationship with a bona fide comorbid ASPD/NPD (and likely psychopathic according to my armchair analysis) the only thing that scares me is these creatures walking the earth free of accountability. To me that particular chemistry is a bomb just waiting to explode.

I'm unable to quote you - thread's closed. Sociopathic and psychopathic are basically (very close) cousins to antisocial personality disorder. A therapeutic psychologist would likely make that diagnosis - or a comorbidity of that and other personality disorders - rather than even a muttering of sociopathy or psychopathy.

There is a huge debate, even within the psych circle itself, if there even is a difference between a sociopath and a psychopath. For me personally, there isn't, and I simply prefer psychopath because of the negative image it conjures for many. People need to think Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy if doing so keeps them from becoming a victim to a cruel, cold-blooded predator very capable of destroying a person and totally ruining their life - if not actually physically taking it. IYKWIM

Great minds think alike! The long post is from my entire post verbatim (including/starting with my words in parentheses questioning the date of April '08) - I transcribed these from screenshots.

My guess is others have transcribed parts of these texts too - but this happens to be the one I did. It caused quite a stir at first - all I did was transcribe these from screenshots in the media/timeline thread - they aren't hidden away, I just put them together here - and thankfully you provided more context!

If she felt that way, it sort of knocks her defense off a cliff, doesn't it? I wish I knew what day this testimony was from - I'd go review the video...

If she questions her justification, the jury sure ought to.

I know I had never seen Michelle K or Elena mentioned before. I put the (?) in there as it wasn't quite discernible. So, to be clear, the (?) was put in there by me and not TA.

Anyone know or heard mention of Michelle K or Elena? Not sure I've heard their names or how they fit into the puzzle.
