A YOUNG woman found dead in an industrial area in Melbourne’s southeast was the victim of a vicious assault, police say.

Shocked workers found the body on a nature strip halfway down Lace St, Doveton, as they arrived at work about 7am on Wednesday.

Det-Sen-Sgt Stephen McIntyre said the woman, aged in her late teens to mid-20s with long dark hair, suffered cuts to her body and traumatic head and facial injuries consistent with an “edged weapon”.

A woman who was found dead in Doveton in Melbourne's south-east may have been bashed with a weapon, police say.

A man was on his way to work when he found the woman lying in a pool of blood in Lace Street early this morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen McIntyre says the death is being treated as suspicious.

"We are treating this as a homicide, she's got some significant injuries to the upper body, we believe there was probably an edged weapon used," he said.

Sounds very similar to the attack in Brisbane. Poor woman

delete if inappropriate found this whilst looking for more msm on this case. http://leader.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/viewer.aspx from 2011. not sure if this is her. But she doesnt have a common name

It may just be me and my distinct lack of tech-savvyness , but I couldn't find what you were referring to about Rani from that link......but I did find it, however, when I Googled her name.

Thanks for the lead, Jo04!!

Oh no :(
Poor woman.
Rest in Peace Rani - lets hope that the Police have some leads on this soon.
:rose:

It sounds like we have a sk losing it in south eastern Melbourne.....

It's not looking great in regard to solving the case, according to this article published today :banghead::

The brutal murder of a 34-year-old woman whose body was found in a pool of blood in Doveton in early April remains a mystery........

.......A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the investigation was ongoing.

An edged weapon police believe was used in the crime has not been found and there are no plans for an information caravan to be set up to seek further public assistance, the spokeswoman said.

Here's a new article mentioning Rani. I'm wondering why they say this (BBM):

WHATEVER the circumstances surrounding her death, Rani Featherston was someone’s daughter, someone’s sister, someone’s friend.

http://berwicknews.starcommunity.com.au/news/2014-05-01/rani-mattered/

That implies there are circumstances that may not make the general public feel sympathetic to her, IMO.

And I've noticed the MSM articles repeatedly say she was known to police.

Regardless of the circumstances, ALL women should be given decent media coverage to help catch their killer IMO

The original Victorian Police Bulletin is missing: http://www.vicpolicenews.com.au/news...t-doveton.html

Also when I try to search for anything about Rani or the Doveton area nothing comes up except for the case of a missing man from Doveton...

That makes me feel sad for Rani. The implication all along has been that she's 'not worth it' :tantrum: It doesn't matter who she was, what she did for a living, whether she took drugs or alcohol.......she was still a person.....and a person who was viciously murdered.

Victorian Police are OUTRAGEOUS with the disregard they show the female victims IMO. What about Kylie Blackwood? Or Jeanette Moss? And even Maddie West only got pursued because her family and friends lobbied so much in MSM and on social media. It's like these women's lives aren't worth much to LE

I don't think we should be so harsh on Vic Police. When the general public isn't hearing any further about the different cases, police involved in those cases will be busy behind the scenes gathering the evidence they know is required to go in for an arrest. Police will only use the media & public if they require assistance in gathering certain parts of evidence.

I've referred to it a few times but look at the extraordinary lengths police went to for an arrest on Daniel Morcombe's killer. The public knew nothing about any of that until the trial.

No news doesn't necessarily mean there's nothing happening or police aren't doing their job.
