Kyron Horman's family keeps up tradition of two birthday parties as the missing boy turns 8
    Published: Wednesday, September 08, 2010, 7:32 PM
    Updated: Wednesday, September 08, 2010, 9:46 PM

This year, as always, his blended family will host two birthday parties, one in Medford and another in the Portland area. They'll dish out chocolate cake, play his favorite tunes, read heartfelt cards and release bunches of red balloons to celebrate his favorite color. There may even be a few gifts.

But the birthday boy himself won't be there.

Judy Maher, who helps operate the Missing Kyron Horman Facebook page, is planning a birthday party Sunday at Bullwinkle's Family Fun Center. Maher said she wanted to make sure Kyron's birthday was marked with a celebration.

"We wanted to do something to help his family get through this week," she said. "It's going to be a rough week."

The celebration will also serve as a fundraiser in the search for Kyron. It will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Bullwinkle's on Southwest Town Center Loop in Wilsonville.

In addition to Wilsonville, there's also a birthday gathering at West Main Church in Medford on Thursday night.

Families Throwing Birthday Parties for Missing Kyron Horman
    Thursday September 09, 2010 04:40 PM EDT

"I'm hoping to do a slideshow of Kyron and his pictures, and play his favorite music, and we're going to have cake," says Young, who lives in Medford, five hours south of Portland. "We're going to talk about our memories of Kyron and pray and have family there and just celebrate Kyron's life."

Kyron's father Kaine Horman, who was divorced from Desiree in 2003, will have a separate celebration on Sunday in Portland at a family fun park.

"[We] play mini-golf, we've done his birthdays there before," he says. "It's probably some place we'd be doing his birthday again or bowling or swimming or something."
