Uncertain future for Casey Anthony after acquittal

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Should Casey Anthony be released Thursday at her sentencing for lying to investigators, the 25-year-old could be hard-pressed to piece together some semblance of a normal life following her acquittal on charges that she killed her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.

The surprising verdict in her trial continued to be the talk of cable and network news Wednesday, a day after she was acquitted of first-degree murder.

"Anthony will always be dogged by the belief that she killed her child," said Lewis Katz, a law professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. "She will never lead a normal life."

Bill O'Reilly: Dumb, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt

Dumb, beyond a reasonable doubt. That is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points" memo.

As I said Tuesday night, it would be unfair to disparage the jury in the case of Casey Anthony in the acquittal without first hearing from them. But they don't want to talk. And who could blame them?

Acquitting this horrible woman has caused a national outrage. So far, only one alternate juror has explained the acquittal.

If it was murder, who did it? If she died accidentally, then who was the child's caretaker?

But Juror No. 2 didn't buy that.

"The six that voted guilty said it didn't matter at what point in time she came home and found out her daughter was missing," he said. "She had to report it in some way, shape or form, and that's where the negligence came in."

But some jurors, he said, had decided not to convict Casey Anthony of any charge in the girl's death. By lunch Tuesday, the guilty side started to lose votes.

Juror No. 2 was the last holdout. Deliberations lasted for 11 hours over two days. They filed into court at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday to hand over their verdict.

"We truly don't know what happened," he said. "Somebody knows, but we don't know."

Casey Anthony's lawyer goes from deadbeat dad to fierce advocate for his client
By Julie K. Brown and David C. Walter, Miami Herald

He is a former bikini salesman, high school dropout and deadbeat dad who barely made it into the Florida Bar. On Tuesday, Jose Baez pulled off one of the most stunning court victories ever.

Baez had been practicing law for only three years when Casey Anthony, 25, hired him. Anthony found out about Baez from an inmate while in jail awaiting trial on charges that she killed her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

At the time, Anthony's father was skeptical, saying in a taped jail interview that "I hope he's not making a reputation for himself."

On Tuesday in Orlando, that's exactly what Baez did.

Casey Anthony Attorney Criticizes Precisely What He Did As A Legal Analyst
videoby Colby Hall | 8:03 am, July 7th, 2011

Soon after the jury returned a “not guilty” verdict in the Casey Anthony trial, on of her lawyers, Cheney Mason , took to the microphones and unleashed a rather fierce diatribe against lawyers who appear on television. He called out the “incompetent talking heads” who discuss cases “they don’t know a damn thing about.” Boy, it sure would be embarrassing to him if he actually did the very same thing before joining Ms. Anthony’s team. Right?
