A Little Girl's Dying Wish

Hi Fran-

I just saw Jayci's story on Fox, too...her story just breaks my heart. It sounds like the poor little girl is trying to hang on for her Daddy. :( I hope he can get there soon.

It seems they'll need to act fast. But, as it's the government, and Federal to boot, I doubt it will be in time. If someone would just have a heart! :(

Taximom said, "She's in a coma?"

Yes Taximom. She had a seizure or something a few hours before the BOR show and she went into a coma. BOR was talking to Gregg Jarrett about this because he's the one from FOX that's been working hard to get the prisons to allow her dad to see her at least one last time.

Sorry to say, it doesn't look to hopeful now, after today's unfortunate turn of events.

There is absolutely no reason they could not take him supervised to her bedside. I doubt he would even mind being shackled if it meant he got to say goodbye to his dying daughter. It would only take a couple of deputies to watch him say his goodbyes. They allow prisoners to go to funerals this way which they will probably allow him to do...after she is gone.

Jayci's condition is declining...

Lincoln, NE - Action 3 News has been bringing you the story of Jayci Yaeger. The ten-year old girl is fighting brain cancer and may not have long to live. Her final wish is to see her father one last time. However, Jason Yaeger is in a Federal Prison Camp in South Dakota where he is serving a five and a half year sentence for drugs. Jason has one year left on his sentence.
Jayci's Uncle, Ed Yaeger said Tuesday, "She's having respiratory problems and continues to have them. Last night, they think she had a stroke. One side is colder than the other and her blood pressure has been low. Her body is trying to shut down."

Some good news! Jayci's dad spent time with her today. The article is a little sketchy, though. I guess he went back to the prison after the visit?

...On Wednesday afternoon, prison guards drove Jason Yaeger to a Lincoln hospice, where he spent several hours at her bedside. No one else was allowed in the room except Jason Yaeger, Jayci and the escorts.

Sources said Yaeger did leave the girl's side to consult with hospice counselors and get some direction on how to speak with the girl about what she was going through.

Prior to Wednesday, the prison warden had allowed Jason Yaeger three visits to his daughter, but had denied requests for a longer furlough or an early transfer to a halfway house in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The warden told Yaeger it was not viewed as an extraordinary circumstance.

i just don't understand ... if you're dying child whose last wish is to see her daddy isn't an "extraordinary circumstance" ... then what is ????

I don't understand it, either. I just hope he can be with her to comfort her when she passes.

That is wonderful she at least got to spend some time with him by her side. I am sure she knew he was there. Bless her heart. Maybe they will extend more time for him the next few days. She truly needs him worse than he needs to be sitting in that cell.

I'm very thankful for this. I hope it changes his life for the better somehow.

They're reporting about this right now on FOX and it is breaking my heart! The daddy only got to stay about 30 minutes. So he is back in prison while his daughter is lying in a hospice bed waiting for death to claim her. While her system is shutting down, she did respond to her daddy being there.
THEY NEED TO LET THIS MAN OUT! :behindbar

That poor baby angel. I hope she goes peacefully.

The daddy doesn't look like your typical druggie to me. Surely he's learned his lesson and has paid his price. Now let his baby die with comfort.

I for one am thankful they allowed him this visit. They even said while he was there her vitals changed. She knew he was with her.

Bless her little heart,
fran

PS...from what I read yesterday, this was the dad's first offense. Hopefully it will be his last. fran

That's bittersweet. This story just breaks my heart. I pray that Jason can be with Jayci when she passes.

Sometimes this system sucks. Punks with rap sheets a mile long are running the streets murdering bright young college students. While this guy can't get out a few months early!

:furious:

I doubt he would even mind being shackled if it meant he got to say goodbye to his dying daughter.

Escorted minimum security inmates are usually not shackled because their rate of escape is almost zero. Too much to lose. They are non violent, very low-risk offenders.

Ember, Fox might be wrong on that account...the story I read said he was there for hours by her bedside. I hope they are wrong anyway.

It is ironic for us to be sitting here and demanding anyone be let out of jail early after a conviction. I just noticed how odd that seemed. Normally, we are screaming, "No way!" I guess we do truly value our children and have a realistic sense of justice. Nice to know. :)

I think there are shades of gray in matters such as this. There are factors to consider, other than just the initial offense.

IMO

You're probably right...it is Fox after all and they tend to flub sometimes!

I too hope it was hours. Poor child....just breaks my heart and makes me so thankful that mine are healthy and even ornery...

Honestly, I wasn't asking he be let out of jail early. I think he should still serve his time, and make up any time he spent outside visiting with his daughter. I think it says a lot that he (or they) offered to do double time if he was let out to be with his dying daughter. I would have done the same thing, gladly.

I would sure like to thank whoever had the heart and decency to let him see her this last time.

I don't see why they don't cut him loose early tho, Taxi. After his daughter's death, he should be able to mourn his loss with family, imo. He isn't a threat to society and he probably was a model prisoner. These things should be taken into account for an early release. His punishment was doled out and he did almost the entire time. Moving him to a halfway house 5 months early wouldn't be unjustified in this case.

I think that they should release this guy early. From the story that I heard on Fox, he is a model inmate in the lowest of security prisons.

I think releasing him early just opens up a can of worms. Letting him see his dying daughter is a totally different issue than "he's served his time". I'm sure there are probably hundreds on inmates in a similar "served his/her time already" that are still in prison. IMO anyway! lol We can agree to disagree, I hope.
