I had discussed w/several people the idea of having a TV Network dedicated to The Missing/Found Unknown. I flip through the channels when looking for something to watch and see Music, Sports, Nat. Geo, Disc, and on and on. I started thinking why not a network dedicated to the missing. Stories, pictures, thinking how many homes that could reach. I have no clue how to do something like this. I am not a good 'communicator'..however, I decided to email several networks, inlcluding the doe network, AMW, Turner Broadcasting, CNN, National Center for Missing and Exploited, etc. I have no idea what it would help, but I figured, what the heck, let's just get the 'idea' out there...see what happens.
Here is what I sent, so far I have rec'd one response, from the doe network, see below:

I am curious about something and would like to know who I can direct this question, suggestion to.

Something I would love to do, start a TV network, a station that runs all hours, showing stories, pictures, etc. of all the missing/found unknowns out there. I have NO clue how something like this would be accomplished.

You have Discovery, Sports, Music, Movies ,etc channels, why not a Missing Persons channel. Do you know how many people this would reach? I believe large businesses and people with missing loved ones would finance such a venture.

Again, I am clueless about this kind of thing, but the ideas are in my head and I thought I'd bring it up.

What made me think of this is all the talk on a website I belong to, WebSleuths.com, a lot of people were talking about all the coverage Natalee Holloway is receiving and the fact that all of the missing, found/unknowns, etc, get nothing, or very little coverage.

Why couldn't you set up something like this?

Why hasn't this been done by anyone?

Any reasons? Can this be done? Can you tell me who I could discuss this with to see if it is possible.

    Thank you and kindest regards,
    Christine Jones

Been working on just that Christine.

A lot more complicated that it might sound....but indeed....it is being considered. There's a blurb about it in this article....

:) Hello Christine, thank you for going forward with this wonderful idea. I have always (as many have) thought about this too.

Thank you for having the drive to go ahead with contacting someone.

    "you are an inspiration"

I hope one day to watch our missing/lost on TV where they belong -

    24 hours a day.

Thank you all for the encouragement. As I mentioned, I am not a good communicator, writer. Listed below are all the major networks websites, you can find email addy's under the contacts page, you just never know who may be interested in taking up something like this.....anyone that wants to, write them about this idea...please, please do! You never know what may come of it!

Love to all, I am so very thankful that I don't have a loved one missing, but for all that do, my prayers are with you every day and I hope that I may be able to help in some way!

Great article Simon, thanks! See, we aren't the only ones thinking about this. maybe if enough of us show interest in watching a channel such as this, someone will go through with it!

Thanks again for the great link!

The more emails they recieve the more attention they will pay. The programming runs by their ratings, so it stands to reason that the more attention they get, the more seriously they will look at it.

Thanks JDB, I don't know what else to do except write these networks. Get them to hear us, we want a Network channel started to run 24/7 about our missing loved ones and also found/unknowns. Start emailing :) Spread the word to others and get them to email too. Maybe someone one of us knows has some connections some where? I don't know. Write/spread the word is the only things I know to do at this time.

In my replies to the doe network, I let them know I would be willing to help if a channel was set up like this, taking calls, getting contributions, whatever, might be a good idea to offer to volunteer if it's possible. Let them know we are willing to also help once the station is up and running.

I landed here by tracing back the link "SurferQuest" mentioned on Google. I am the initiator of the SurferQuest - Missing Children project on our Internet Kiosks.
    I guess I beat you to the e-mail christine2448!

You made me think Christine and although we as a company are way too small to even think of setting something like this up, you did made me think. Like hopefully my initiative of displaying the Missing Children on our Kiosks, will make you and others think and hopefully make new ideas or the same ideas on a different media network.

Personally I hope that my initiative will make the ATM people think. Imagine if they would utilize every ATM machine out there for displaying The Missing Children. I know they can push content to every ATM machine, they use it now for advertisiments. If they can do that, they can also push pictures to them. What a difference that would make.

You guys have a powerful voice and as I read the messages I realize you use it so well. Keep up the good work, but don't forget the little battles. Win enough little ones and.........

Ron1834, SurferQuest. First of all, let me thank you for your initiative in getting the pictures of the missing kids out in the public forum. All movements start with one person's initative. You say that your company is small, yet you have made a huge contribution in the effort.
Second, please stick around and do a little reading. Join in the posting, send out a few emails. You can help a lot by joining in. Your ideas about posting them on ATM's are interesting, I had never considered that. You sound like an idea person we really need around here!

    Hiya Ron! Welcome!

I did email you all, and I'm trying to understand if you read my email and that's how you ended up here? I can't remember who, but someone sent me an email about what your company was doing w/the Kiosks and I sent you the same email I have been sending to all the networks/TV news anchors, etc. As I have mentioned in earlier posts, I have rec'd only 1 response and it was from the doe network, and now, I think I have recieved a response from Surferquest :) I'm just very tired and not sure if I am understanding your post LOL.

I think what you are doing is wonderful and I send you a sincere thank you!

Now, about the ATMs, would I contact the individual banks about this? Or is this something you are currently working on? I think it is a fantastic idea!!!

Hope you stick around and join in discussions on our forum here.

    Kindest regards,
    Christine

Thank you for the warm welcome Mysteriew and Christine.

Now, about the ATMs, is this something you are currently working on? I think it is a fantastic idea!!!

No, Christine, my goal is to get the SurferQuest Internet Kiosk in a lot of public places like Rest Areas. We are working with a couple now and on the 18th we have a Press Conference of displaying the Missing Children in the NH rest areas. 2 more states on the East Coast are interested as well and hopefully will follow shortly afterwards.

I am also working on some other projects that involve displaying the Missing Children. Can't go into that yet.

The ATM is a different technology with some of the same features, like digital signage. This feature can be utilized, very easily in my view, for displaying the Missing Children. I am thinking about this a lot, the only thing is, it conflicts with what I am doing myself. The time I would spend on this, I cannot spend on my other projects. And they are just that important.

But I can help and I have some ideas about how we have the best chance. This involves a lot, because I believe there is only one way to do this and that is to set ALL the sails. More than I and you 2 can do.

I have something to do now, but this is something to think about. I will be back.

    Ron

    Ron,

Is there any chance of including missing adults in the displays in the NH rest areas. There are a considerable number of missing people in ratio to the population.

Here is a link to a thread on this forum entitled Missing Young Women in NH:

I think your idea is GREAT !
