Sorry I had to check out at some point here today, was there any talk about the the bullet and the forensics behind matching it to his Sauer? While I think he could be convicted without that probably I think that's the lock to the case if they convince the jury

At one point while Holeman and Allen were in the car, the lieutenant asked if Allen wanted to fill out a form for items damaged in the search. Holeman said Allen responded, “It doesn’t matter. It’s over.”

You think this is some sign of guilt, rather than a frustrated man whose property has just been gone through with a fine tooth comb being glad LE is done and not wanting to prolong his interaction with them after that?

“a round”
A generic term used to describe a cartridge for a gun that in complete with bullet, case and propellant (gun powder.)
“a .40 caliber round”
This is letting you know the size of the bullet. Caliber is the inside dimension of the barrel. So in this case .40 inches.
“a cartridge” This is the more correct term describing ammunition that is complete with bullet casing, primer and propellant.
“a spent cartridge”
This is referring to the case after it has been fired. This will include a primer with a firing pin mark.
“an unspent cartridge”
Ammunition that has not been fired.
“a magazine”
This is the part of a gun that holds cartridges to be cycled into the firing chamber (technically battery.)
“tool marking”
Marks left on items when they come into contact with other objects. In this case they are referring to the marks the ejector and extraction parts of the gun will leave as ammunition is cycled out of the gun. These would be somewhat unique like finger prints and vary by wear and differences between guns.

For what it is worth I have 2 Smith and Wesson pistols in 40 cal, and I took new ammunition and cycled it through both guns and it was remarkable how different the marks left on the casings was. In my guns it was so noticeable I sorted some spent casings (about 100) and all but 5 you could tell which gun had fired them. The top of the magazine leaves marks as it pushes out of my guns. One has 2 lines the full length of the case the other strangely has one the full length of the case and the second only on half the case.

I took pics and was going to write a post and put up pics, but that discussion died down, so decided against it.
Well thank you for that clear and concise description. While I’m obviously not a gun owner myself, I absolutely support our 2nd Amendment Right.

So DD could have written down anything, and he can't remember anything outside of what he wrote. The Fishing license may have been purchased by someone else who may have guessed at RA's height... oh man. Not brilliant imo.

Doesn't the person purchasing the license need to sign his/her name for it?

If RA bought it...
wouldnt his own signature be on it to match other of his signatures?

Of course... if someone else bought it for him...
this wouldn't be the case...

But... i would imagine it is common practice to purchase own licenses...

Just some thoughts...

I have a very tight range of motion in my neck and shoulders. I often strategize parking in order to keep the swivel to a minimum; enough to safely drive but not to have to throw my arm up on the passenger seat for the full reverse "pose". So I look for opportunities to back in as much as possible, ie enough wiggle room to not hit anything like a crowded lot, or looking for a spot with an empty spot in front so's to be able to just pull forward into it, then out.
I agree, I think the backing in 'clue' - since it was something he did at work 5 years later, when there was no reason to hide his license plate - is more indicative of a habit that BG and RA may have shared.

ETA I'm very interested in whether people who viewed the video footage, thought it looked like RA's car.

Sorry if this is naive, but why didn’t they ask any of the witnesses whether RA looks like the guy they saw on the bridge? He’s sitting right there.
Short beard or long beard, 2017 or sitting in court in 2024, fat or skinny? He doesn't look anything like he did seven years ago. Asking a witness to identify a suspect in the courtroom sounds more like TV drama than actual courtroom evidence.

I absolutely do. Just one more incriminating piece.

Holeman claims Allen responded by saying, “why bother, it’s all over.” Holeman claimed Allen repeated this line when later asked if he wanted to be taken to see his wife.

Would someone mind clarifying…
“a round”
“a .40 caliber round”
“a cartridge”
“a spent cartridge”
“an unspent cartridge”
“a magazine”
“tool marking”
Thanks
Several of those terms are interchangeable:
a cartridge = a casing and a bullet, intact & unfired (a unit of ammunition)
a round = same as a cartridge
an unspent cartridge = same as a round

a .40 caliber round = .40 Smith & Wesson is a specific sized round (they come in all different sizes)
a spent cartridge = the part of a round that's left behind after the projectile is fired, the casing
a magazine = a clip, the part of a gun that holds the ammunition
tool marking = in this case, junk science IMHO

Some sloppy journalism on somebody’s part. Did Holeman say that Allen said: “why bother, it’s all over” or did Holeman say Allen said: “It doesn’t matter, it’s over”?

Splitting hairs some might say, but who knows, specific words and context matter.

You could interpret either or both as saying “it doesn't matter, I’m guilty” to “what difference does it make, they’ve already done the damage to my home.”

Jmo
He said it a second time.
eta: MassGuy beat me to it

During the search, Lt. Jerry Holeman testified that Allen sat with him in Holeman’s vehicle. He told Allen that if the police damaged any of his home or property, there was a form he could fill out. Holeman testified that Allen responded, “It doesn’t matter. It’s over.”

Holeman further testified that Allen said that phrase a second time when Holeman offered to drive Allen to see his wife at her place of work.

What kind of damage do they do to a suspects home? Who pays for repairs?

Perhaps not a monster but definitely a show off LOL

The struggle is real, for me, to back into a parking spot, even backing up my driveway.
I've had an audience before during a snow and ice storm as our driveway goes up hill so I provided entertainment to the neighbors while trying to back up the slippery driveway.

But I am still challenged without the ice and snow LOL

But my point is that most people that are comfortable backing up, usually do so as a habit, so for RA's vehicle to be backed up at the old CPS building also matches that he backs up in work (CVS) parking lot is a habit.
The people who are most used to backing in to parking spots are LE.

I was at a bar and grille and noticed almost all the cars had been backed in to their spots. I jokingly said “what’s going on tonight, police retirement party?” The hostess nodded and said “yep!”
