Timber workers around noon today found a human skull near Old Mulga Loop Road and New Mulga Loop Road, Birmingham police announced tonight.
Officers from the West Precinct searched the area, but were unable to find additional remains.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office took the skull and said it appears to be that of a white male.
Deputy Coroner Chris Moore said tonight they don't know the cause of death, identity, or whether this was a case of foul play.
Anyone with information pertaining to the case is asked to contact the Birmingham Police Homicide Unit at 254-1764 or CrimeStoppers at 254-7777.

There are three locations on the human skull (the ridge over the eyes, the area below and behind the ears, and the area at the rear base of the skull) from which an anthropologist determines gender. The ridges above the eyes are more prominent in males than in females, and the other two areas (i.e., muscle attachment sites) are larger in males than females.
