I wonder if they search upstream if they’ll find additional remains. When was the last big flood? Were there any people unaccounted for?

Interesting that they have no DNA, fingerprints or dental info on Yu Chin Goodson especially with her being in a group home. Once they do the forensics on this skull they would need to test the son to compare, if he can be located.

“A human skull found in Hodges near the Horseshoe Bend campground is likely that of an adult, according to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver.

[SBM]

[Chasity Welch, the campground manager at Horseshoe Bend] said the skull wasn't actually found on their property, but says they flood every year.

‘A lot of stuff washes up because we flood so much,’ said Welch.

[SBM]

‘It was in a place where not a lot of people normally go to. That's what makes it so good to find old bottles,’ said Welch.

[SBM]

Oliver said they have sent the human skull of to be forensically examined. He said it could take weeks, if not months, to get those results back.

Here's what we do know [about the human skull discovered near Horseshoe Bend campground]:
Sheriff's investigators were contacted Sunday night about a skull discovered by two swimmers who were visiting Horseshoe Bend campground.

It was dark before law enforcement could respond, so investigators arrived early Monday morning and the two individuals showed them where the skull was discovered.

[SBM]

Oliver described the area as a location where the water level rose from flooding and the skull was deposited on a rock ledge.

[SBM]

‘There were no other bones or anything else in the area that appears connected to the skull,’ [Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said].

[SBM]

Oliver said the skull's likely destination is to the University of Tennessee for forensic analysis.

Oliver said he's been questioned and contacted by individuals who read on social media that the skull was identified as a female, had a full set of healthy teeth and appeared not to have been there a long time.

In fact, none of that is true, Oliver said.

‘That is information we hope to learn through forensic analysis as to the age, sex and how long the person has been deceased,’ Oliver said. ‘It could even be Native American remains. At this point, we don't know. It does look like the skull was exposed to the elements for a long time, at least that's how it appears, but we'll await further analysis,’ he added.

The skull contained very few teeth, Oliver said, with only a few back teeth present.

Jessica Hamby is missing from Haleyville: AL - AL - Jessica Hamby, 24, Haleyville, 2 Jan 2018

About 31 miles away: Google Maps
This is a distinct possibility and who the locals are mentioning in social media. Her body could have been buried and the flood disturbed it but I doubt it. The ground would have been very cold and almost frozen in January. The earth in that region is clay and very dense. There are a lot of tributaries in that area and with it being more rural, I suspect she may have been tossed in a lake or creek.

"WAAY31 has learned new details on a grisly discovery in Franklin County. This morning Franklin County Sheriff, Shannon Oliver, said the human skull found last month belongs to a man who has been dead for two to seven years...

Oliver said the skull found in Hodges belongs to a man between the ages of 18 to 50. The state worked with a professor, who is an expert in skeletal forensic analysis, to make the determination.

"At this point there are a lot of unanswered questions," said Oliver. "We personally don't have any missing person reports that match that criteria but the investigation will begin to try and find out more."

While the skull doesn't match any missing persons cases in Franklin County, there's no telling where the investigation could take them."

Human skull found in Franklin County is that of an 18 to 50 year old

"Oliver said that’s pretty vague, but it’s what authorities have to go on as of right now. Because the skull was discovered in a flood zone, it will be difficult to determine from where it might have washed into Franklin County, given the skull does not appear to be connected to any open Franklin County cases.

“(Investigators) have covered the area pretty well and have been unable to locate any other bones or other debris of any kind,” Oliver said. “It could have come from anywhere because that water comes a long stretch away. The area (where it was found) was on a ledge several feet above the water, and you could see where the water flooded that area at some point in time.”"

Well the Tennessee River is north of there and everything is thawed and spring rains should be done. It's a great time for hikers and people fishing to find things. Hopefully, all the police groups in the region can spread the word. Great practice for rescue groups to hone their skills too.

Estimated 2-7 years since death, white male between 18-49, no other skeletal bones found. Those are some good clues and they have some possible victims’ names. That means a family will finally be able to lay their loved one to rest. That is a good day in forensics for sure.

“We have some people that is of interest that is missing from adjoining counties, and maybe even real close to the county line,” said Sheriff Shannon Oliver.
