Found Deceased AL - Jennifer Marshell White, 55, Moulton, 08 Apr 2018 #2

It’s not okay. The ball was dropped in this case significantly. I, for one, don’t believe it was dropped by the entire MPD, but it was dropped by the chief and whoever was assisting him. If he didn’t have knowledge of cellphones and pinging location, he should’ve asked someone to assist. Unfortunately, the chief has given his force a bad name and that’s very unfortunate for all of the officers representing this department.

I cannot get past the fact that instead of her being found in hours or even a couple of days-she was found 1 month later. After decomp has now made it impossible for her daughters and family to even be able to see their mom one last time. I just can’t imagine what they are feeling.

I hope everyone on the "force" pays very close attention to all that transpires with this case. I hope they listen very closely to the PI and her reports. The State Investigators and the coroner's office. If they don't have the experience, then they will learn a lot. I hope that the State will see a need for continuing education for these small town forces. Now, that is about all the benefit of doubt I wish to offer these guys.

Can someone whom has the full name of the PI and maybe contact info, contact on Lucas Hernandez thread? Or FieryNerd or Chihuahua? I can’t help but think they need her to find Lucas as they aren’t successful otherwise yet!

That was beautiful HaKer Jack. It deserves a whole truck load of Thanks.
Thank you, redfish. It may seem weird but speaking about grief is actually very humbling for me. It's one thing when a family or small group has to grieve but the loss of Marshell is the type of loss that rocks communities to their core. It is both heart breaking and life affirming, because Marshell's community with get through this. Yes, there may be outside assistance (because we all grieve so differently) but nearly all of it will be the members of that community supporting each other.

And I'm not just waxing poetic. This is fact. And in these communities sometimes people need a reminder to grieve. And generally, it's those who help others that need that reminder. It can be a pastor/rabbi/imam, a psychiatrist/peer support specialist/case worker, nurses, doctors, but also unexpected but very visible people that everyone talks to like hair sylists/barbers, small scale gas station owners and grocery store clerks. And of course volunteers. Because volunteers especially if they don't know the person will think I'm fine, I don't need to grieve.

And then the next thing you know, you're driving down the road while on a beach vacation with your family and you see a pink Salt life sticker and suddenly you can't stop crying.

What I will willingly admit to doing in that post was encourage all of us to grieve as well. Because Marshell has touched our lives. And the same holds true in every missing persons thread here on Websleuths if/when a new thread for the same person begins and the words found & deceased have replaced missing.

I have probably strayed too far off topic but I feel like it's important that everyone who participates on here gets a reminder that even if we didn't personally know Marshell or Abby & Liberty or Beth & Baby Girl Doe, that grieving for them is both important and valid. It won't be the same for each of us and for each of us how we grieve for those lost every single time will be different and unique. But never is it not important to do and never is it not valid.

No worries! I've used phones from day one. And yes, Android and Apple have a ton of differences which is why I went looking for help. I felt so dumb because it's been so long that I thought it might have changed more than it actually has.

This just bugs me so much that this could have been resolved so much sooner. I watched the interview with Marshell's girls and I think it was her aunt maybe? And their pain is practically palpable.

I joined Websleuths last year but I actually ended up here last week to look into Marshell's story as a part of an effort to get exposure to Missing Persons on social media. I don't know what just made me think of that. She was the first Jennifer that came up. I didn't even have a chance to get her on the list.

There definitely needs to be more exposure for missing people on social media. If you ever need assistance, I’d love to help.

We live in a world now that the younger generations don’t often watch the evening news but do spend a lot of time on social media. And social media is a powerful resource, when used correctly.

Did I see that Marshell and her vehicle were found 12 miles from the location that has been deemed the last ping? (Even though the carrier likely has a record of pings after that?)

And unfortunately as MPD was, if I recall, touting said ping as Marshell's last location, 12 miles would be a great distance out of the way to go. Though in thinking about it, that 12 miles could be closer as it was likely calculated via roadways whereas a proper search, depending, of course, on how it was done, is most efficient when you "mow the grass", a helicopter for example, in theory, should do multiple passes at a specific distance apart (that would be based on all kinds of factors must of which I'm sure I have next to zero knowledge of other than very rudimentary heat seeking camera knowledge). I mean if you're looking for a vehicle, be it the RMS TITANIC, the MH370 or Jennifer Marshell White's Chevy Tahoe, you lay out a grid on a map and you mow the grass. Period.

I seriously hope that the Moulton community eventually has the LE they deserve.

And to the person who helped with the search, you are wonderful. No matter what role you played, know that your grief whether you knew Marshell personally or that you are grieving by proxy by being one who searched for her, if I may be so bold to say this, I encourage you to continue honoring Marshell (and also yourself) by now allowing yourself to grieve. But also do not judge yourself on how that grief occurs. It may be a one time cry in a bathroom or it may take much time and occur in many locations. Whomever you are, the people you have aligned yourself with, all of you make up what appears to be a beautiful community and I know that I am glad for all of you that you have each other. Peace to all of you. [emoji170]

Helicopter searches were ordered the day after she was reported missing.

Moulton police and other law enforcement agencies are using helicopters to search for a missing woman who disappeared Sunday afternoon.

Where the helicopter search was conducted was Winston County.

Moulton Police Chief Lyndon McWhorter said he has ordered a helicopter search of a section of Winston County to help possibly locate a missing Moulton woman.

So despite conducting a helicopter search there was no sighting of her vehicle. It happens.

It turns out, as the crow flies, it is approximately 9 miles from the cell tower to where Jennifer was found or 40 percent of the radius.

There is quite a bit of misinformation around this case especially in regards to search efforts by numerous agencies. Most significant is the notion that there was little to no searching done which is simply not true.

It just turns out that it was a private search that found her rather than an LE search and for some reason people seem to think that is very uncommon when the opposite is true. Most people not found within a short period of time are found by random people walking, running, hiking, hunting or by volunteer search parties or searches organized by the families or community. This is because law enforcement do not have enough personnel to be out searching and having to cover crime in their community let alone enough personnel to cover any significant ground in a foot search for example.

Moulton PD is only 12 officers total. That isn't even enough to have 3 officers on all shifts. What can you realistically do with only 3 officers? At best they can leverage additional manpower for from Lawrence County Sheriff's Office - Moulton is in Lawrence County. But none of that mattered since, as we know, Jennifer was in another county quite a distance away.

If you read the articles in the links that mention the helicopter search you can see that Moulton PD had engaged the Sheriff's office in Winston County to assist in the search and other jurisdictions as well.

Jethro I agree with everything you have said. Sometimes people forget that Law enforcement are not super heroes. They are people just like us. Cases are not solved in an hour like on TV. Rural area small towns usually only have a few officers on duty and they are over worked. It’s easy to sit in judgment. If a person having suicidal ideation hides themselves so that they won’t be found easily and goes through with the act ... they were serious about dying. How is this law enforcements fault? I see this in almost every thread. Obviously it’s because people need someone to blame, even when there is no one to blame.

Councilman: Wife may have taken her own life

MOULTON — A Moulton councilman grieving the loss of his wife said he wouldn’t be surprised to learn from state forensics that his wife took her own life.

District 5 Councilman Brent White said his wife, Jennifer Marshell White, 55, was having “some very serious medical conditions.” Marshell White left her Market Street home on April 8 and was last heard from in a text message in the early morning of April 9. Phone records show the texts came from Winston County.

“She was taking a lot of medicines to keep things under control,” he said. “Some of the medicines had side effects that could increase the thoughts of suicide. Based on her texts to me and the way she had been acting, when she left I thought she was probably going to take her own life. The text sounded suicidal.”

[...]

(modsnip)

McWhorter said the investigation from his department has concluded.

“It’s not in my city, not in my county,” he said. “It’s not my scene. I wasn’t at the scene Sunday. … She was found. I’m glad she was found so there will be some closure.”

White said he wants to thank family members and friends who have supported him during his wife's disappearance.

"During this whole process, my dear friends and family who have been here for me have helped me deal with this," he said. "Something guided these people to call me, visit me and pray for me when I seemed to need it the most."

The husband's lack of concern and disdain towards her daughters does cause me concern, but I'm waiting for further information. Families do have alternatives. Rebecca Zahau's family just won a civil suit against her boyfriend's brother for wrongful death, after he found her bound and nude and it was ruled a hanging suicide. Sorry for not being able to link, but that case blew my mind. Hoping JMW's daughters have a strong support system and I'm thinking of them and how much they must be missing their mama.

Yet he still feels the need to subtle disparage her.

Note also. Me me me me.

This is not a nice man

Just a couple or few random comments:

About small-town law enforcement not having the resources to carry out large-scale investigations; of course, that is 100% true. What usually happens in these cases (from my experience, paying attention in the media) is that once a LE agency has run out of resources to give to one high-profile case, they do something like call a press conference, issue a PR statement, or give interviews to the press explaining, in very clear language, that they can no longer devote time. It can be argued that the MPD did this, but their language wasn’t at all clear and in fact led to a lot of misunderstandings, especially in tandem with the notorious FB post.

In the end, I have come to believe that Chief McWhorter was just way in over his head and perhaps panicked once the press started descending on his formerly quiet little town. I now have compassion for the man, in that way, but perhaps he doesn’t need to be in that position anymore.

On another topic; the Decatur newspaper interview with Brent White. There’s a lot there to unpack, but the one thing I found striking and infuriating was his defense of the MPD FB post. OMG Brent, it’s irrelevant whether you think it’s the truth about Marshell or not. Admit it was inappropriate to put it on the MPD’s page and move on.

Attorney weighs in on handling of woman's disappearance

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - A legal expert says the release of information in the search for a missing North Alabama woman was unorthodox.

[...]

McDaniel thought it was wise that Moulton PD took the lengthy Facebook post down. The agency's entire Facebook page was deactivated after that.

“Certainly you can understand the concerns of family members about this kind of information being posted about their mother,” he said. “Police departments are real hesitant in releasing any kind of information on their investigation. It's unusual when you would see information released liked that, especially on the person who is missing. I'm not saying anything was done wrong, I'm just saying it's unusual. there's always a lot of pressure but there's usually very little information released.”

When she left? I’m genuinely confused. I was under the impression from all other articles and statements that BW didn’t see his wife leave the house?

Good catch.
As I said, there’s a lot to unpack in that interview. And as noted a few posts above, “me me me”.

Research the word "Left' in Statement Analysis. TOS does not allow for me to post links from that address.

Thank you. Also, I would suggest y’all taking a look at JNW’s fb this morning and what one of her daughters tagged her in on JNW’s page.

I’ve given this man the benefit of the doubt. I’ve played devils advocate. I’ve tried to not jump to conclusions. I’ve ignored what my instincts have said.

However when someone makes this statement, it’s impossible to ignore.

“She was taking a lot of medicines to keep things under control,” he said. “Some of the medicines had side effects that could increase the thoughts of suicide. Based on her texts to me and the way she had been acting, when she left I thought she was probably going to take her own life. The text sounded suicidal.”

I thought she was probably going to take her own life

I can’t even wrap my head around that. I cannot understand how anyone could think someone was going to commit suicide and do absolutely nothing.

I also am praying that perhaps the reporter misinterpreted or misquoted what came out of Brent’s mouth.
