GUILTY AL - Marie Kitchens Martin, 74, & Colton Ryan Lee, 7, murdered, +2 others, Guntersville, July 2018 *appeal filed 2023*

The double-homicide victims have been identified as Marie Kitchens Martin and her great-grandson Colton Ryan Lee. Martin was 74-years-old and a longtime resident of Guntersville; Colton was 7-years-old, and visiting from Huntsville.

Police did not release the way the two died, but said they were "brutally murdered."

Shortly after putting out a lookout bulletin for a person of interest in the crime, police captured 30-year-old Christopher Michael Chambers. He's been questioned in the slaying and is being held in the Guntersville jail on unrelated, outstanding warrants. He also has outstanding warrants from Marshall County.

Regarding the 2 additional bodies:

While they were investigating the Mulberry Street scene, a neighbor alerted officers to a house across the street, where the homeowner hadn't been seen in about 10 days. The neighbor knew that resident, 65-year-old Martha Reliford, had medical problems. Police entered the home to do a welfare check, and found Reliford dead inside.

Within an hour of finding Reilford, a fourth person was found dead about a quarter mile away in a ditch on Miller Street. That victim was identified as James Michael Baker, who had been reported missing from his home in Albertville early Friday morning.

Police said Baker's death appears to be natural, but they're not ruling out foul play.

The four bodies were sent to Huntsville for an autopsy, and investigators asked the bodies be placed on "priority status."

All I get is the quick video of the police officer. No comments connected to it.

Hmmm, the link worked when I first posted it because I checked, but now it doesn't. It used to take you directly to the comment, but now you'll need to click comments and scroll to find the comments by a poster with the initials of LB.

Suspect charged with murders of three in Guntersville

A homeless ex-convict, not long out of prison, is charged with four counts of capital murder in three of the four deaths discovered within about an hour and within a half-mile of each other Friday in Guntersville, according to Police Chief Jim Peterson
Jimmy O’Neal Spencer, 53, was arrested 42 hours and 16 minutes after police were called to the scene of a double homicide on Mulberry Street, Peterson said.

While officers were at the scene, neighbors expressed concerns about another neighbor they’d not seen for days.

Martha Dale Reliford, 65, was found dead in her home in the next block of Mulberry Street, Peterson said.

Police don't believe the victims were all killed at the same time. How horrendous. Is Alabama a death penalty state?

Yes....and this guy would be a good candidate for it.

Nobody seems to have known Spencer just walked out the doors of his court-assigned facility, including the parole officer that was talking with Spencer after he had left.

"Apparently even after he [Spencer] left he was continuing to check in with his parole officer," Robert Tuten, Spencer's court-appointed lawyer, said.

Not sure why I never looked to see if this case was being discussed on the site. I live in Guntersville, and often saw the victim (Ms. Kitchens) at the local Walmart as she was one of the greeters. This murder has really shaken our small town.
