Melatonin can HELP you sleep, but it doesn't MAKE you sleep like a good sedative would. In other words, you can take melatonin and just stay awake if you want to.

Several of the benzodiazepines will do the same, including temazepam, nitrazepam, and diazepam. You can easily stay awake and function after taking a normal dose of those - although a BIG dose would be more likely to put you to sleep.

Rohypnol (flunitrazepam) will put most people to sleep, and also induce profound amnesia in most people. For those who are unaware, that's the so-called "date-rape" drug. Although there are others used nowadays too, which I won't name on here. But Rohypnol has had more than enough publicity that I don't need to avoid naming it.

Melatonin is a mild sedative, and is used more to reset the body clock (diurnal rhythm) to counter jet-lag. Works rather well, actually - I use it when traveling overseas. Normally, melatonin is secreted by the pineal gland at the base of the brain, and cycles from day to night in response to daylight. The pineal is sometimes called the "third eye" for that reason.

Wonder if he bought Stilnox (on prescription)? Either for a genuine need, or for alibi preparation? Just a thought - not a fact....

You are more informed than my sleep physician, I am impressed, don't you specialise in cardiology? I use Melatonin too, however like you have elaborated, it could only be used as a mild sedative and then by someone with enough knowledge of melatonin production/stimulation & how to make that work/not work for your benefit.

Would you (please and kindly???) also ask about the hair banding questions? Can you really tell if a strand of hair is from ante mortem/post mortem? And is this admissible in (Australian) court?

You just reminded me summer...I meant to post these a few days back after I mentioned the hair root banding...

First is from Caylee Anthony case...

An FBI hair analyst testified today that a hair found in the trunk of Casey Anthony's car likely came from a dead body.

Karen Korsberg Lowe said she felt definitively that the sample of hair removed from the trunk showed post-mortem banding -meaning that hair was consistent with hair from a dead body, not a live one.

"It has a darkened band at the root portion of the hair. This is consistent with apparent decomposition," Lowe said during the court session this morning.

This link has quite a lot of info about it...one point it mentions is that this root banding only seems able to be detected post mortem from around eight hours after death.....

Although our data suggest that it may take several days to develop
postmortem banding, it has been reported as occurring in as few as
8 h (1). Why only a select few hairs demonstrate root banding is not
known.

funny. benzo's make me wired. but they've knocked men 3 times my size to the ground. pseudoephidrine makes me extremely sleepy while others will abuse it as a pick me up. I suffer from narcolepsy though & P.O.T.S..so I would add that it makes sense I'd react differently to certian medications.
On topic, Rational - remember our ASIC searches pergaps 25 threads back, we were so on point.

Absolutely parkerp! I have just been going back through some threads as I have this uneasy feeling (nothing more) that we are missing something in relation to the link between GBC and NGB, both in terms of financial mismanagement (as a minimum) and fraud and murder and accessory. I just feel that is what is going to tie a lot of things together.

I know this has been gone over before but there was a mention in the first few threads 1-3 about a car being left at the show ground and I again have this feeling tha he poster mentioned NBCs car. Someone else later mentioned Allison's car.

I cannot find the post. Marly are you still here or if not if you have time tomorrow please???

I wished I could have a look at those accounts. I think they will show a possible absolute financial demise for GBC without question but I also believe for NBC (They probably put up their retirement funds to bail out -haha bad choice of words that came later- )GBCs business misadventures.

This could become interesting at trial, because it cold give a real argument as to why NBC would willingly help out his son, and maybe his tears at the busstop were not for Allison but for all the money lost.

Firesnake I meant to go find this post this morning but didn't have time until tonight....the poster mentions "the day before Allison was reported missing, ie. Wednesday"....but she was reported missing on the Friday, in which case this poster maybe meant to say Thursday.

She told me that a friend of hers works in a doctors practice and that GBC had come into the practice the day before Allison was reported missing, ie. Wednesday, and that he had scratches on his face. This would indicate that if he had other scratches on his body at all, maybe they were sustained at the same time - Wednesday or before

We have never have been able to get confirmation that GBC attended the Kenmore CC breakfast meeting he would have chaired as the President, but we do know that he went to the chemist on Thursday morning before the Cross Country at the school. So maybe she was right and went from the doctor to the chemist.
Does anyone know someone in the Chamber of Commerce or are minutes of meetings available to check if he was there?

I think QPS are so ahead - they know and now they have to prove.
The thing I don't understand is why the family are not formally brought in - my sympathy goes for suspects when they refuse to be questioned and insist they have answered that and it is old ground - when they have never have fully revealed - as happens in a lot of unanswered cases.
Any reasonably educated person know that people closest to missing/deceased is most likely - a wall of silence smack of guilt (imo)

Would this have been another reason Nigelaine were involved in the early days of the business? One of them were the "principal" on paper...? I think I read the business started in 2004 or 2005 - thanks UT just saw your post - 2004.

Wow Marly, thank you!!!!! So, if I read correctly, it is highly unlikely that a single strand of hair will contain the "banding" markings of decomposition?????

And that the decomposition "banding" is easily confused with other characteristics of hair strands that are "normal"?

Still, an interesting exercise would be the timeline. Do we know (for sure) the date the hair (and blood) evidence was collected??? Vis-a-vis the timeline for date of death?

Thanks for that. That is one close family! And a family that has a history of looking after no1 son. Be very interesting if either of them will ever talk, as that could upset the apple cart big time.

If I had ever had had to apply for bankruptcy I would be worried sick my late parents would have ever found out because they would have been mortified and would have told me in no uncertain terms to fix up my own mess.

Summer_breeze, when you say collected. I am assuming you mean when police discovered the evidence.. if so, it would have been at least 24hrs I would say. As Allison appeared to have been killed sometime during the night of the 19th and the early hours of the 20th..more likely before midnight on the 19th. The Police did not set up a crime scene and seize the vehicle until the Friday the 20th.. so it may have been collected sometime that day or following. I hope thats what you meant.

yes! IMO all of it had me side eyeing NBC as more than just an accessory. I think we know enough of this man and his ego to reasonably deduce this?
