As deputies were on their way, they learned Spencer had found the missing child in a vehicle with Michael Fosler, the sheriff’s office said.

A confrontation ensued between Spencer and Fosler, leading to the father shooting the other man, deputies said. Fosler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Someone called the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office around 1:12 Tuesday morning about a missing juvenile, the sheriff’s office said in a news release on Facebook. The girl is 14 years old and the man who was shot is in his 60s, Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley confirmed to USA TODAY Friday afternoon.

While deputies were on their way to the home, someone called to let them know that a father had found his daughter with a man named Michael Fosler, authorities said.

Fosler was arrested 9/4/24. While the case has been sealed to protect a minor, I think we can safely assume what the case is about.

Sheriff makes a statement about the case at link below.

There is a lot of public support for this family, including a crowd source fund for legal fees. On that site, Mom of the minor gives details on the leadup to the shooting.

There is obviously more to this story than meets the eye.

The fundraiser has been closed by the website and donations refunded. But the family is working on finding an alternative solution. From the article above.

The family has another on a different platform, over 1,000 people have supported their cause and steadily gaining steam. It's easily found @BrownRice .

A woman claiming to be Spencer’s wife claimed they had a no-contact order for Fosler, accusing him of stalking their child.

In an online fundraiser, the woman said Spencer began driving around to search for their child after discovering she was missing. She explained that her husband happened to pass a man driving with their child in his vehicle and chased him.

Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley told USA Today that Fosler, the man who was killed, was arrested earlier this summer for internet stalking of a child and sexual assault, but was out on bond. He added that his agency was investigating what led to the Oct. 8 incident.

I don't think any of us can over estimate the pull these young girls feel with fake flattery online, they have no way of being objective about the grooming.

I remember clearly being about 14, and followihg my hormones into situations that could have turned out badly if the male had been a grownup practiced pedo. Or just a random father figure type offering apparent kihdness and adventure.

I can hardly imagine what these little girls have to wade thru, having it enter their private correspondence while they are in bed with their teddy bears.

If it turns out this was perpetrated by an ex le officer. Omg. If the system was protecting him. Heads should roll.

Why was he out of jail awaiting apparent sexual abuse charges?

I've been reading up on this and I honestly want to commend this man, and even now, I hope he never regrets his actions. I'm the last person to ever think violence solves anything but it looks like the only other option was to let this horrible man keep preying on his daughter and others. How heartbreaking that they went through all the proper channels first and this young girl was still being victimized.
Also, IMO, anyone who is or has been a law officer, who commits these kinds of crimes, they should be held to even higher standards than the average citizen. They know better than the average citizen what the laws are, what's right and wrong, how to possibly hide their crimes, and the far reaching trauma it causes, he did it all anyway. String him up and make an example of him, I say.

I mean… from some of the accounts I’ve read, if accurate, wtf was his option? I agree…. Justified.
Though I am leaning towards 'justified' as well, I think the key part of your post is "If accurate".

At the end of the day, not all claims about anything are accurate, and.... strange things happen.

The Sheriff seems to be doing his job by insisting that the case be investigated and that stated facts be actually verified before making any final recommendations to the prosecutor.

If it's true that the dead perp was a type of family friend, boyfriend of a friend, then the little girl may have received the subliminal message that he was approved, which made her let down her guard against going for rides with strangers, etc. How powerful that "acceptance", at friends' gatherings, etc must have (could have) been. Just speculating here. Looking back I do remember friends of my parents, the men, being so smiley and a little pushy. Not saying any of them made "advances" towards me. Just kind of yucky gushing. Now, imagine if that were taking place these days at a friendly multi family gathering with the man in question allegedly being the ex or present chief of police. Imagine the vibes of respect that man would surely receive. And how the kids would all automatically respect the individual....no matter what he suggested to them.
