The original white truck we discussed a few weeks ago that was "abandoned" at a motel was in La Porte, TX. (See A.C.I.'s post: [ame="http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8031532&postcount=608"]http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8031532&postcount=608[/ame])

La Porte, TX is still in the Houston area, technically, but on the opposite site of Houston than San Jacinto county, where the truck they are investigating now was found.

2 different trucks.

Lavergne appears on the Louisiana Sate Police website as a registered sex offender. The website says Lavergne was convicted in 2000 of aggravated oral sexual battery. He was released from prison in 2008.

I know.... Saw it the second they released his name but sometimes the charges they are convicted of aren't the original charges. Plus, the oral thing throws me off. Usually not a charge you hear of as a charge by itself.

Chances are, it was worse originally and pleaded down.

I think it's a mistake to label certain 'crimes' like urinating in public, sexting between kids in school, cases of a girlfriend/boyfriend being just underage as a sexual offense. When I see the term Sex Offender I want to know that this is a truly bad person and that I need to steer clear of them. I don't want to give some bad guy the benefit of the doubt that maybe he urinated in an alley at Mardi Gras.

There are tiers and all I know but the term has just become to broad.

I believe that some criminals such as bank robbers or burglars and even some murderers can be rehabilitated but not serious sex offenders. The urge never goes away.

I'm not sure if you got the impression that I think it's appropriate that "crimes" like urinating in an alley at Mardi Gras should be considered sex crimes, but I want to make sure you, and everyone else, knows that I do not think this is appropriate.

I wholeheartedly agree with you that the term has become too broad.

I was using that as an example in an argument, stating that there is a big difference between that kind of "sex offender" and and a rapist.

Can someone tell me if IND.Com is considered a reliable news source?

Eh. That's the paper that came out with the Rocky McGee story early in the case. But I mean, it's a good paper for fluff and will normally have the same news as everyone else.

If he dumped both bike and body at the same time, how could the property be considered a crime scene?

Because there could be evidence on his clothes and belongings (her DNA, mud on his shoes they can pinpoint to Whiskey Bay, etc.) as well as some of her belongings could be there. A lot of predators keep souvenirs of their victims...

I'm now reading that BSL spent some time in the mental institution in Pineville, possibly dealing with PTSD after his time in the military.

As I previously posted, many of our convicted criminals are mentally ill individuals, some have been diagnosed and some have not. We spend billions of dollars searching for cures for those with physical illnesses but lock up and throw away the key on many with mental illnesses.

Can you show me any studies that say they can't be rehabilitated?

According to this article by the American Psychological Association, a large study done in 2002 showed recidivism rates of 17.3 percent for untreated sex offenders compared with 9.9 percent for treated offenders. So obviously some can be rehabilitated.

Just because someone is a sex offender doesn't mean they will become a murderer. That's making a big assumption.

It's a matter of much debate on a global scale.

(Voices of California's Civil Detainees at Coalinga State Hospital)

"Many sexual predator statutes refer generically to sex offenders as having a mental illness. In fact, many sex offenders do not have a mental illness that can be treated under our current understanding and available evidence"

There are expert opinions by the thousands. This will not be resolved in a public forum.

The reason why I posted it is because it mentioned that other site with the person who posted info on the perp and at first everyone thought was rumor but turned out true.

He is trying to stay out of the public now but I don't think he can because he left a very large internet fingerprint. A lesson all should learn and the reason for me posting it in the first place.

Somehow I can't see all recidivists running to say, "Hey, I did it again!". This is based on those who would. Also not in there are which predators can be rehabilitated. Remember, there are those who are accused of rape in the case of 17 yo and a 16 yo having consensual sex and the ticked off parents bring charges. So I can see how they can be rebailitated because they don't have sex with those under 17 if their boyfriend/girlfriend come of age. They're considered predators.

No sex offenders do not automatically become murderers. It seems though that those that prey on victoms and their crimes escalate would be more likely to become dangerous and maybe murderers.

come on Presser, this soap opera playing right now is driving me crazy. LOL
