Van der Sloot's lawyer, Maximo Altez, told Fox News Digital Holloway's family "tricked" his client into getting involved with the FBI.

Altez says van der Sloot didn't reach out to the family and was "entrapped" when the Holloway family contacted him.

George Patriot Seymore, Beth Holloway's spokesperson, told Fox News Digital this allegation is false.

"These allegations are patently untrue," Seymore said. "We look forward to making our case in court.

Joran van der Sloot ‘severely beaten’ in Peruvian jail, lawyer says​

Joran van der Sloot has been “severely beaten” in a Peruvian jail, according to his lawyer.

ABC News quoted the lawyer for the 35-year-old van der Sloot, Maximo Altez, as saying that he does not believe the beating was related to his client’s expected extradition to the U.S. on extortion charges, but rather to gang rules inside the Callapalca Prison where he is currently being held.

According to Altez, van der Sloot is currently in the Peruvian prison’s medical aisle. The lawyer is requesting van der Sloot be moved to another prison for his own safety.

The Dutch man who was among the last to see Natalee Holloway before she vanished was injured in a prison brawl as he awaits extradition to the United States, his Peruvian lawyer said Tuesday.

Joran van der Sloot found himself in the middle of a fight between rival gangs Saturday inside Challapalca Prison, where he's serving a 28-year murder sentence, defense attorney Maximo Altez told NBC News.

While van der Sloot is being treated in the facility's medical wing, Altez said, his client's injuries are "nothing too serious."

The attorney said he's instructed his client to oppose extradition to the United States, "but he decided against it” and seeks to come to America to fight charges related to the Holloway case.

LIMA, Peru (AP) — The chief suspect in the unsolved 2005 disappearance of American student Natalee Holloway will not challenge the Peruvian government’s decision to extradite him to the United States, his attorney told The Associated Press Tuesday.

A trip to US prison/jail facilities is going to be vacation for this guy.

The best thing to do with sociopaths like this is to lock them up in solitary confinement. Where they are forced to look into a tin mirror everyday and are cut off from the gratification that they get from manipulating and getting reactions from others.

He probably paid another inmate or wanted this to happen in order to avoid an additional 40 years in prison in the US. He has made himself comfortable there. Had sex with multiple women, married the woman he impregnated, moved to another prison, cheated on his wife by having a girlfriend who helped him smuggle/sell drugs in prison. This dude has had a phenomenal amount of freedom where he’s at and he knows that prison won’t be the same in the United States. His own defense lawyer has publicly stated that he doesn’t trust the US judicial system and is concerned for Joran going. Now he’s publicly stating that Joran is some sort of hero for defending his friend in a fight. Oh and a couple of scratches and bruises? Gtfo.Joran has avoided the United States for a reason and historically lies/ran/scams/refuses to help Natalie Halloway’s family retain any closure. This is calculated in my opinion because he’s delaying the extradition process

I agree with everything other than his extradition to the U.S. being a vacation for him. He has been on vacation this entire time in Peruvian prison. He knows the freedom he has had will be opposite in a U.S. federal prison. He won’t be able to have sex with women, get married, have children or distribute/smuggle drugs like he has,in federal prison. He might like the attention but he definitely understands the United States will be closing his coffin.

Altez said that once the bureaucratic procedures are completed and van der Sloot is given a medical exam, his client will be transferred to the U.S. He estimated the extradition could take place on Tuesday, but Peruvian officials did not confirm this day.

When asked by the Associated Press why his client agreed, the lawyer responded: "He is imprisoned in the worst prison in the world," referring the maximum-security Challapalca prison.

"Any prison in the United States is a five-star hotel" in comparison, he said.

#Joran van der Sloot, suspected of killing #NATALEE #Holloway, is set for extradition. He will face US Federal extortion and wire fraud charges. He was never charged in Natalie's murder due to "lack of evidence" and killed a young lady in Peru a short time after. He's serving time in a Peruvian prison for that murder. He will face these charges, then go back to Peru to finish his sentence, then back to serve out his sentence here, if convicted.
