A woman appeared agitated and concerned as she left the foyer of a Sydney unit block just 12 hours before her body was found in a nearby creek, a witness has said.
Homicide detectives and local police are trying to establish whether the woman's death is suspicious after her body was found in water behind a set of Westmead unit blocks about 7.30am on Wednesday.
Building manager Tom Hailey said security footage had captured the woman pacing back and forth in the foyer of a building inside Monarco Estate about 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Mr Hailey said residents had told him they heard a "blood-curdling scream" about 6.30am on Wednesday just before police arrived.

UPDATE: Police trawl CCTV footage for clues over Sydney underpass death

A woman whose body was found in a flooded underpass near her apartment block in Sydney's west had been anxiously pacing the lobby the previous night as if she was “waiting for someone.”

After some time the woman wedged her scarf in the door to keep it ajar and left, he said.

A resident at the Monarco Estate complex said no one ever went to the creek behind the block.

The body of a woman has been found near a creek at the rear of a large apartment block in Sydney's west, police say.

A member of the public is believed to have found the body about 7.30am on Wednesday and phoned triple-0.

The woman is thought to have been aged in her 30s. It was reported earlier she was thought to have been aged in her 20s.

Police have set up a crime scene at the property on Bridge Road, near the intersection with Wentworth Avenue, in Westmead.

Homicide squad detectives and local police have launched an investigation into her death.

They are appealing for anyone with further information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

There were emotional scenes outside a western Sydney unit block on Wednesday morning, after a woman's body was found in a nearby creek.

Distraught relatives comforted each other following the shocking discovery at Westmead.

It's believed the woman, aged in her 20s, was found by a member of the public, around 7.30am.

7News has been told the woman was seen on CCTV pacing nervously before leaving the apartment complex, around 7.30pm on Tuesday night.

The building manager said they heard a 'blood curdling scream' when the grim discovery was made.

Police have been reviewing CCTV footage that showed the woman walking to and from the back entrance of her Westmead unit four or five times on Tuesday evening.

"She looked as if she was waiting for someone," said complex manager Tom Hailey.

After some time, the woman wedged her scarf in the door to keep it ajar and left, he said.

Mr Hailey said the woman lived on the seventh floor of the block.

This is a very weird case, from what we know so far. It sounds like she was going out to meet someone. And she put the scarf in the door to get in and out quietly and easily......

Blessings to her and her family. It's very sad.

It is weird, Isis. People are saying that no-one ever went back there, to where her body was found. Why did she just leave the door jammed open (living on the 7th floor) and not take her keys? What was all her pacing back and forth about? Who was going to meet her, if that was the case?

I hope police can get to the bottom of this. It sounds very suspicious to me.

A resident at the Monarco Estate complex said no one ever went to the creek behind the block at Bridge Road.
"It's not a place where people walk through, it's not pleasant, it's dirty and the weather's been bad," she said.

They've named her (bbm). She's a Sri Lankan woman:

Homicide detectives and local police are trying to establish whether Amesha Rajapakse's death is suspicious after the 31-year-old's body was found in water behind a set of Westmead unit blocks.

Police said her death was puzzling because of where her body was found but said there were no marks or obvious signs of injury on her body.

I just read this, which I hadn't read before:

Detectives are trying to establish whether the woman had been reported missing days earlier.

Hmmmm ... that's interesting. Just when did Amesha go missing?

I heard on TV news that her brother and husband had been looking for her the night before, so presumably last night (Tuesday). But Amesha could have gone missing earlier perhaps?

Well, the MSM reports say that the cctv footage of her pacing around are from Tuesday night. So she was obviously home on Tuesday. It sounds like she may have gone missing before this incident but returned home.....

Stranger and stranger ... perhaps reported missing some days ago ... returned home ... left the door jammed open with a scarf (did she have no keys? how did she get in when she returned home .. IF she was reported missing earlier) ... paced around waiting for someone ... is searched for on Tuesday evening/night by husband and brother .... then the following morning they discover her dead in a dirty creek where no-one ever goes ....

So Monarco Estate sounds pretty upmarket (according to the developer's spiel, anyway):

Monarco Estate continues to be one of the most sought after addresses in Westmead. Boasting luxury swimming pool & sauna, gymnasium, tennis court, rolling landscaped gardens with shade sails & meandering pathways, children’s playground and visitor parking, Monarco Estate creates a sense of beauty & community. Resort living in the heart of Sydney – selected apartments are now available for sale directly from the developer.
