Corey was bashed in the early hours of 29th August 2013 and left for dead. Locals found him and called for help, Ambo's came and transferred him to hospital where he died a short time later.

I'll post a bunch of links for those of you interested, hopefully I'll get them in order.

Today They've released CCTV footage of him, which was from moments before he was bashed, it's quite eerie to watch.

I've been following this case since it happened as I have a connection with the town, so it shocked me and sparked my interest. It used to be a sweet quiet town where everyone felt safe. Now there's so much crime it's hard to believe.

The local paper is called the Young Witness, this is their FB https://www.facebook.com/pages/Young-Witness/159588387464790 They're good with covering local news for us non locals to follow and there's always some interesting comments on the articles. You'll also be able to read about other crimes in the town...

There was a lot of gossip about the type of person that he was and his drug use and dealing, this can now be discussed since his ex Tammarra has commented on it in MSM.

I never knew him or any of his friends etc, just to clarify. But I do know people in town.

Regardless of his past or terribly poor choices, he now has a 4yr old daughter left to wonder where her daddy is and why he's not coming home.

I also thought that given some of the other threads are quiet, that some of you awesome hard core sleuthers might be able to cast your eyes over it and come up with some theories etc.

My theory is that the police know who it is and are just gathering enough evidence to arrest someone or even several people.
As for motive... He either pissed someone off that night at the pub - (seems extreme) or it was someone that wasn't happy with him moving back to town, another dealer perhaps? This could also make sense why his ex's house has been broken into etc, to keep her silent maybe?

    Thoughts??

One thing i would say from the outset is as bad as drug dealing is, most drug dealers do not commit murder. Unless its a gang style taking over a terrirtory which is a whole different ball of wax and they essentially announce it.

So it is quite probable the motive is one to do with his personal life as opposed to drugs. It is to easy to focus on drugs and nothing else. Just a reminder not to get tunnel vision with this.

Thanks for inviting us here Humdinger. I have finally read through all the MSM articles and FB entries from the Young Witness (local paper).

What is with the time on the CCTV footage of Corey? The time says 05:53:53 (close to 6am), yet Corey was found horribly bashed at about 5:10am. I guess the CCTV time could have been set during daylight savings earlier in the year, and never set back the hour to ‘real’ time when daylight savings ended?

And what was he doing walking around at 5am? Coming from where - going to where? Pub is closed then .. was he at a friend's house after the pub, or a girl's house? Can't find that info.

Another interesting couple of things ...

Three boys/men were sent to prison on 22nd October for severely bashing and stomping a cherry picker - a French national - during an unprovoked attack a year ago.

Comments under the article on the Witness FB page suggest that these guys think they are so tough, they used a weapon in the bashing attack (like Corey’s murder), and it was about time they were imprisoned.

Also, a different three men who were involved in a stabbing attack in 2012 mysteriously had their charges (all 16 of them) withdrawn and dismissed on 17 September this year. Judge was shocked. Now, I wonder why the DPP did that? No reason was given.

It's a very good point that a drug dealer's death might have had nothing to do with drugs. But speaking from experience, back in my wild youth - though not a hard drug user, I did know by association a few dealers, and some who experienced home invasions and severe beatings (mainly from customers..), it was not a very safe lifestyle, for sure. No gangs, aside from the bikers, back then ... just drug culture, and its sad reality - that in that world, you can't trust ANYone, ever.

That said, if he wasn't dealing at the time, I think it's more likely he could have been attacked by a pack of randoms, or people who heard he was dealing wherever, and thought he'd have money on him.. Who knows, at this stage.

I do hope they find his killer/s so his little girl grows up knowing there is justice.

eta: I found this a bit disturbing...

"As far as Tammarra knew though, he hadn’t been involved with those people on his return and she wasn’t aware of any retribution.

Since his murder, she said, she’d had people break into her house and come into her yard."
    http://www.youngwitness.com.au/story/1880449/daughter-asks-about-daddy/?cs=1540

... break ins?? Why would that be happening?

And added to the comments from the family in this:

    http://www.canberratimes.com.au/act...wer-desperate-for-answers-20130927-2uigb.html

.. I am thinking maybe it wasn't random at all.

Hope they find out more from the CCTV footage ... The family are not from the town so the paper miss quoted about them being approached. Tammarra the ex has had people confronting her and breaking into her house "why??" ...

    http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/corey-powe...#ixzz2jSHMKykB

As for the whereabouts before hand, surely the police have more CCTV footage and surly the person that he was meeting up with know where he was going...

Where there is drugs, there is trouble , full stop. If he was dealing previously, it must have be his return to town that upset someone.

Hope the police are protecting the kids in the ex's house from further break ins etc

    Thanks SA.
There doesn't seem to be much in MSM. Being a Wed night, the pubs would have been closed by 9/10pm. Chances are he left a pub with friends to go back to someones house for drinking / drugs IMO. I don't know what direction he was walking in in that footage. For some reason I felt he had come from up Wombat st and that's a residential area and there would have been CCTV at the car yard if he walked on that side (which is opposite where he was found). But I can't work out where the CCTV footage came from, but it must have been from closer to the main St, so he was on that side of town heading up towards the residential end of Wombat st. I don't know where Tammarra lives, maybe he was heading home.

I wonder if he was followed or if it was more random and he came across something and that led to a fight?

Wasn't that a horrible quote? I'm not sure if he was misquoted or not, I hope so! It was like he was saying that because of the socio economic status of Corey that no one cares and that the town has accepted that 'these things happen' (and I'll add what everyone is thinking) to people like that...

I think that it might be a different quote if it had been his son...

Yeah it's a small town and the dealers are not big city dealers, they're generally really quite obviously dealers and they do things differently in the country. They're not always as 'smart' about their decisions and actions.

I tend to believe what Tammarra has said, purely because she hasn't spoken to the press until now and she said that she wasn't going to paint a pretty picture or whatever her quote was - she was aware of his past and wasn't interested in denying it.

The break ins etc are horrible, she has a few kids (did I read somewhere 4?) and she deserves to be safe, her daughter has lost enough, she needs to feel safe and secure!! I don't know why though? Is it because they think she knows who did it and they're trying to scare her??

I personally doubt it was random, it's too small a town - though as we know from MSM there are people in town attacking randoms... But this doesn't feel random to me. His past feels like the answer, but I don't know why...

Isn't that horrendus! I can't get my head around that either! What kind of person does that? Even Michelle Knight didn't wish Ariel Castro dead!!! It's far from normal behaivour!

I'm not sure what is still available on his FB, he has 2, but a lot of it has since dissapeared. But he did seem to have upset a few people and been accused of things. Nothing that seemed murder worthy, but I guess tip of the iceberg stuff maybe?

Can I post links to his FB?

    https://www.facebook.com/cmpower1?fref=ts

I can't find the other one... Not even through his sisters or either of the ex's. If anyone is good with these things let me know.
The one I've linked to is an old one.

In MSM it says he went out to meet a friend. Earlier in the night police apparently were called to a pub in town - maybe it's connected?

MOO - given his past - police knew he was back in town. He had enemies and as you've said, where there's drugs there's trouble. He was wearing distinctive clothing that night, IMO the police had seen him earlier and maybe even had words. In the morning when the police heard about the attack they would have been to the hospital and seen him, MSM said his face made him unrecognisable, the police identified him with fingerprints, but I think they knew exactly who it was. I also think they've got a great idea of who did it and it's a matter of needing firm evidence. There's been no weapon found and no apparent witnesses.
