Bruce and Denise, tomorrow is the day you have waited for with such strength and admiration for so many years. I pray that you get the result we all want. The whole of Australia is behind you. If I can be half the parent to my children that you are to yours then I will be very proud.

I admire you, my empathy is with you and we as a country adore you. Thank you for educating our children and striving to protect them from the worlds evils.

Sending lots of love to you both and your beautiful boys. Tonight I will light a candle for Daniel as I have done often for many years. May your strength carry on. xxxx

Our thoughts are with the Morcombe family and friends today as the Trial nears its end and the jury retires to consider its verdict. It's been an emotionally exhausting journey and justice for Daniel has been long awaited. :justice: :candle:

OPINION: Thanks to Bruce and Denise Morcombe for helping all of us
MADONNA KING THE COURIER-MAIL
THIS column is about a family who lost their son; a son who now belongs to all of us...
it is not about the guilt or innocence of a man accused of being responsible for that loss, nor the sickening allegations that now make daily headlines...That son is Daniel Morcombe and he could be your son too...

Daniel Morcombe murder trial: Jury receives final instructions
March 11, 2014 - 4:49PM by Marissa Calligeros

JURY TO CONSIDER MORCOMBE VERDICT
A jury may find Daniel Morcombe's accused killer Brett Peter Cowan guilty of murder even if it believes he had no intention to kill the 13-year-old schoolboy.

Justice Atkinson told the jury it did not need to be satisfied that Mr Cowan intended to kill Daniel to reach a guilty verdict...an intention to kill did not need to be long standing..."It is sufficient for it to be formed in a matter of seconds ... immediately before the relevant event," she said...

Justice Atkinson said "indecent dealing" was not limited to touching and included "acting towards the child"..."It would include starting to pull down his pants, his shorts," she said...

Article covers some key Justice Atkinson's directions to the Jury...

Daniel Morcombe murder: Jury retires to consider verdicts
Updated 17 minutes ago

Justice Roslyn Atkinson began proceedings this morning delving into the undercover police operation...

Justice Atkinson told the jury it had been a long trial with a lot of evidence...
She said jurors could check any facts of the case while considering their verdicts...
Justice Atkinson has provided jurors with a question trail to help them reach verdicts.

Justice Atkinson told the Jury yesterday: "The evidence is what you've heard in this court and not recollections of what you might have read in the newspaper or seen on television or heard on the radio at some time during the past or even during the trial"..."You should dismiss all feelings of sympathy or prejudice against the defendant or anyone else..."Nor should you allow public opinion to sway you, you must approach your duty dispassionately."

Daniel Morcombe Trial Hinges On Video 'Confession', says judge in summing up
Australian Associated Press, theguardian.com, Wednesday 12 March 2014 14.19 AEST

Justice Atkinson took Jurors through a transcript of a 2011 video-recorded conversation between Cowan and an undercover police officer in which Cowan confessed he “did it”.... She instructed Jurors to carefully consider this key piece of evidence prosecutors say proves Brett Peter Cowan killed the Queensland schoolboy...

Justice Atkinson told jurors they must be satisfied Cowan did “give the answers attributed to him” in the video’s transcript, and also that his confession was honest... “It’s up to you to decide whether you’re satisfied those things said by the defendant, which would tend to indicate that he is guilty of the offence, were true,” she said. “Because if you’re not satisfied, you couldn’t rely on them as a guide to prove his guilt.”

Jurors were encouraged to replay the confession video – of which they have a copy – as often as they like during deliberations...
