POLICE are investigating the mysterious disappearance of an elderly man who has been missing for a fortnight and fear he has been killed.

David Hanson, 71, was last seen on February 22 at a Snowdon Street house at Slacks Creek but has not been seen or contacted his family since.

It was the day he was due to finish a whirlwind visit to Australia to return to his gold and diamond mining operations in Tanzania.

Police are seeking public assistance to locate a man missing from Slacks Creek last month.

David Hanson, aged 71, was last seen on February 22 at a Snowdon Street residence at Slacks Creek.

He has not been seen or made contact with family since this time.

Mr Hanson’s daughter reported him missing to police on Sunday March 2, 2014.

Police hold concerns for Mr Hansons welfare as the behaviour is out of character.

He is described as being Caucasian in appearance, around 170cms tall and has a slim build, a bald head and a moustache.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen Mr Hanson to contact Crime Stoppers.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.

Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said the grandfather worked as a mining consultant in Tanzania and often flew between Australia and Africa.

He arrived back in Brisbane from South Africa on February 18, and was due to catch a return flight on the 22nd. However, he never made it to the airport.

Police are checking whether Mr Hanson's phone and bank accounts have been accessed but are yet to find any activity

Police believe a 71-year-old man last seen in Brisbane almost a fortnight ago may have been murdered.

"We seriously are considering the fact that a homicide has taken place and we do hold grave concerns for his safety," Detective Superintendent Dave Hutchinson said on Thursday.

"It's difficult to say (whether he was murdered) as this is very early stages but we have sufficient concern for his welfare that we are investigating the matter and do have homicide detectives involved."

Gem miner David Hanson killed at Brisbane automotive business, body has never been found

    November 20, 2014

DETECTIVES are investigating four suspects in relation to the disappearance of a Queensland father-of-five believed to have been killed in February.

David Hanson, 71, was last seen alive by his daughter when the pair met for breakfast at Sunnybank Plaza’s Coffee Club on February 22.

He was due to return to Tanzania that day, where he had been living intermittently for a decade, but never arrived at the airport for his international flight.

A nine month investigation involving local, federal and Tanzanian police has left them with little doubt he was killed.

    Update: Homicide investigation, Logan

    November 20, 2014 at 8:30 pm

Detectives investigating the suspected murder of a 71-year-old man in Logan earlier this year have released new images as they continue to appeal for public assistance.

South Eastern Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson said police believe it is likely Mr Hanson was killed at a business address in Woodridge.

“We have identified a number of strong leads throughout the investigation and we have a number of firm suspects,” Detective Superintendent Hutchinson said.

“We believe Mr Hanson may have been killed at a car detailing business which was then at Timms Court at Woodridge.

“He was last seen leaving a Sunnybank shopping centre on the corner of Mains Road and McCullough streets at 9.23am on February 22.

“At that stage he was driving a red Hyundai vehicle.

“We are asking for anybody who has information which may assist this investigation to come forward.

“We are particularly interested in speaking with anybody who can provide information on the movements of Mr Hanson once he left the shopping centre in the red Hyundai.”

Mr Hanson was reported missing by his daughter on March 2.

Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
