GUILTY Australia - E. Fremantle, WA, AsianFem, in suitcase in river, Jul'16 - Annabelle Chen

"WA police may have worked out the identity of the mystery woman found dead inside a suitcase in a Perth river more than two months ago.
Speculation that a breakthrough may be imminent follows two days of intensive searching by police of a house in Perth.
There are reports the dead woman may be linked to the Mosman Park property, a western suburb in Perth. "

Thanks for the update Oona. Also from your link; 'The woman's body had suffered "significant" injuries, but had not been shot, as some media initially reported.' Poor little love. Hopefully she'll have her name soon.

Further tweets say (not pasting as they all have the large photo attached) that she was a 57yr old divorcee who had children living in Perth that were estranged. She regularly attended Christian churches and Buddhist temples.

And that she has spelled her name wrong. It is Annabelle Chen.

Thanks, Morrisa. Some good news at least. It's a shame Annabelle was estranged from her children.

'Police have confirmed the identity of a woman whose dismembered body was found stuffed into a suitcase dumped in Perth's Swan River two months ago.

Detectives said the woman was Annabelle Chen, 57, from the Perth suburb of Mosman Park.'

'Detective Senior Sergeant Tom Mills said she was last seen on June 30 and described her as a "private, caring, spiritual person".'

'Police launched an extensive media campaign to try to identify Ms Chen after her body was discovered, but Detective Mills said her daughter did not lodge a missing person's report until last Friday and had not seen media reports about the case.

He said the daughter had travelled to Perth from interstate after she was unable to contact her mother.

"She'd been trying to get in touch with her mother for a period of time and had been unsuccessful," he said.'

How dreadful the way her life ended after being described as a private caring spiritual person. RIP Annabelle.

At 57 Annabelle was a long way out of the original age range estimate, 35 - 45, later stretched to 30 - 50. And she had only been dead a couple of days when found.

It's most likely a filter but even so, you can tell her features don't match at all (especially compared to the second one they released, they were a bit closer with the first but still way off). Maybe they thought she was a younger lady so they drew the image based on that (Although I do understand it might be hard to do a reconstruction in this case). Honestly, knowing now that she was a private lady that kept to herself, the reconstructions and information released, I can understand why her neighbours or people in her life didn't come forward or tip off the police.

Anyway, RIP Annabelle. I'm sorry this happened to you, and I hope that whoever did this is caught. I'm glad you have your name back. Well done, WA Police.

(PS: We should get the Australian police onto some international unidentified cases. They have done great work lately on the cases of Khandalyce/Karlie Pearce and now Annabelle Chen)

I think in old school terms, although I do know about SM and especially instagram filters. Yes, digital facial reconstruction was probably very difficult. It's an art as well as a science. I can't wait for the wholesale use of DNA technology in this area. I think it will be ground-breaking.

It's dreadful to think that someone can disappear without anyone noticing; especially in this poor lady's case. It happens more often than not. I hate to read about elderly people who pass away in their units, not missed, until someone notices an odour. Sometimes it can be years between their time of death and the discovery of their remains.

Yes, RIP Annabelle and let justice be done for you.

Wow. Big news. So she was a casino regular, came in up to six or seven times a week, behaved in a way indicative of money laundering, mixed with people who'd known Stephen Cookson the drug crook whose head was found on Rottnest Island, and then she disappeared for nine weeks. But casino staff read about the body in the suitcase, looked at the reconstructions, and didn't suspect the body was Annabelle because it didn't look like her. ********.

BREAKING: 68 yo man and 25 yo woman charged with murder of Mosman Park woman Annabelle Chen, whose body was found in suitcase in Swan River

Distinctive tiles found in suitcase. Police have determined the tiles found in the suitcase and by the Fremantle Traffic Bridge were manufactured in the mid-1990s.

Yes, the daffodil border tile looks like a reproduction of a Pilkington-style design from the early 1900s. Similarly coloured glazes, too.

The tiles may be the clue to a primary crime scene and/or the occupation of a potential murderer and any co-conspirator(s).

No doubt WAPOL will be asking people involved in the building trade about subbies (particularly working visa holders) that have recently upped sticks and left without any notice.

Looks like the tiles were the key, Oona.
