GUILTY Australia - Kylie Maybury, 6, abducted & murdered, Preston, Vic, 6 Nov 1984

So this thread might finally move from Cold Cases to Trials. Nothing will bring Kylie back, but at least she can now be avenged.

I was so pleased to see an arrest made in this case - that the alleged perp is still alive means he can be held accountable for his horrible actions.

He faced an out-of-sessions court hearing and was remanded in custody.'

Gregory Keith Davies, 73, was arrested at the Waterford Park retirement village, in Knoxfield in Melbourne’s east, on Thursday and was later charged with the girl’s rape, false imprisonment and murder.

Video is worth watching - old footage from the 1984 investigation and a photo of the 73 year old hiding his face.

The article says Kylie was drugged before she was assaulted and murdered. I don't remember reading this before, maybe the police held it back for obvious and good reasons. GD may have admitted abducting Kylie, drugging and raping her and she died from an overdose. He's trying for a manslaughter charge. Grrrrrrr
This is the same excuse Michael Guider used after he was arrested in 1996 for the murder of Samantha Knight, (9 yrs old) from Bondi in 1986.

Kylie Maybury's mother eyes her accused killer in court

The mother of a little girl found dead in a Melbourne gutter more than 30 years ago has faced her daughter's alleged rapist and murderer in court.

Police allege Davies, of Waterford Park, falsely imprisoned and raped Kylie on November 6 and murdered her the following day.

Man accused of Kylie Maybury's murder lived quiet life in tiny town.

"Little is known about Mr Davies' past before he arrived in the small town. Neighbours knew him well, and he helped many of them with household tasks. He also watched their houses for them when they were away.
"He was always very vigilant," one said.
"He would take down the numberplates of anyone who was at the house while it was empty, even though it was just family stopping by."

What a strange story - he turns up one day to visit his brother and eventually marries the older lady who owns the house. Sounds like he was paranoid because he was guilty.

Poor Mum. Apparently the accused stared at her in court (so I heard on a news bulletin). Praying for comfort and strength for Kylie's family and friends at this extremely challenging time.

It looks like Ausgirl was right earlier in this thread... this guy was local to the Preston area back in 1984.

When you don't know who is behind something you pick an obvious person to blame. That's why everyone was so desperate in the 1990s to put Sheree Beasley's killer on trial for murdering Kylie. They were bitterly disappointed when DNA proved that Sheree's killer did not kill Kylie.

Same thing happening with Sharron Phillips disappearence in 1986. People now coming forward accusing their dead fathers of killing her.

After thirty-two years many of the witnesses and neighbours of the Mayburys from 1984 would be dead. Police think this is the case with Lorna Simpson. I hope that That young Italian can be traced.

I really do not want this thread to go cold until the trial.

Did Davies choose Melbourne Cup Day on purpose?

The schools would have been closed for the holiday, after all.

A new article has been published by the Herald-Sun - it seems he lived just 500 metres away from where Kylie was left in the gutter. :(

From the article:

Kylie Maybury’s body dumped close to accused killer’s home
Keith Moor, Herald Sun
June 23, 2016 6:00pm

'The homicide squad is appealing for two potential witnesses to contact police.

One of them rang Crime Stoppers soon after Kylie’s November 1984 murder, and claimed that a Holden Kingswood stationwagon was used by Kylie’s killer.

The second witness who police hope will contact them again told a friend of Kylie’s mother, on the day Kylie was abducted, that she had seen a girl fitting Kylie’s description in a stationwagon being driven by a man.

The friend, Lorna Simpson, described the witness as being young, slim, attractive and Italian. She would probably now be aged in her 40s.

Police are appealing to those two witnesses, and anybody else with information, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppersvic.com.au'

I hope the witnesses are still alive and come forward.

It would make sense that Davies would have a house close to his elderly mother's home. I doubt he drugged, raped and killed Kylie at his mother's house.

The article gives the impression KD wasn't just living close to his mother, Paul, but with her at the time he allegedly murdered Kylie, so just where the attack occurred, I'm not sure. His car? Somewhere close to home but isolated?

'The Herald Sun has discovered Mr Davies — who was known as Keith Davies — lived with his parents in Gordon Grove, Preston, for several years. His mother, now dead, was still living in the house at the time Kylie was murdered.'

I wonder if it one of the witnesses, who 'rang Crime Stoppers soon after Kylie’s November 1984 murder, and claimed that a Holden Kingswood stationwagon was used by Kylie’s killer', was KD's mother?

did KD threaten his mother to keep her quiet about Kylie? Wouldn't take much to intimidate an old woman...
