Australia Australia - Leisl Smith, 23, Wallarah, NSW, 19 Aug 2012 *arrest in 2019, died during trial*

Good find! Google maps says 41k, about 30 min drive.

This article says woman was his de facto.

A TALLAI man will remain behind bars charged with the rape, torture and attempted murder of his de facto partner on the Gold Coast.

The 29-year-old was arrested on Saturday after police responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at 11.15pm and discovered a woman bound and gagged inside a locked shipping container on a Tallai property.

It is unknown how long she had been kept in there.

Hoping this is unrelated - 10.00pm news -'human remains found in a bag on the banks of the Tweed River. PM being carried out'

http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2012/11/26/442516_tweed-byron-news.html

Tumbulgum appears to be closer to the area's Gail Lynch (Warwick - 3 hours) although her rug is missing so I would predict she was buried not put in the river or in a bag. Then there is Sandrine Jourdan (Cabooture - 2 hours) Mother of 3 missing since July. Whoever it may be I hope they can be identified soon sounds to me like a suspicious death with the body being found in a bag.

Thank you very much for this post. Until you start looking at something like this you have no idea the extent of what's going on out there. Many of these stories either don't make the news or a tiny paragraph pages in after all the latest rubbish from Canberra, which footy player is signing up where, reality TV wannabes etc etc..

Sandrine Jourdan case similarities to Leisl -

Gail Lynch - her body still not located?

The latest discovery was made by a man who burst into the Tumbulgum Tavern about 7pm on Saturday, saying he had found a body in a bag and asking bar staff to call the police.

The bag was found on the western bank of the river near the intersection of Dulguigan and McAuleys roads.

The link you posted about the shipping container seems like it could possible be related, great find. Terrible for anyone to go through that so lucky someone called the cops and they got there in time!

*Edit just realised the location of the shipping container (Tallai) is 9 hours away from where leisl was last seen.

Credit for the Tallai story goes to mikkismom - she found it first :)
Dreadful story though, the accused is remanded in custody and having mental health assessment.

Don't think I saw the posts on the father's FB. I did go looking for possible family posts a few days ago. Leisl's sister has posted on here to update us. :twocents:

It could be anyone though as they never said the sex or age of the body, will be interesting to find out who if they ever inform us.

Good news - in a way. (not for another family though)

HUMAN remains found in a body bag near the sleepy Tweed Valley hamlet of Tumbulgum belong to a middle-aged man, according to early forensic tests.
The discovery of the body bag on the weekend stunned residents of the tiny Tweed village and sparked a full-blown murder investigation involving detectives from Sydney.

Initially police could not say whether the remains belonged to a man or woman.

However, preliminary results have indicated the remains are of a man aged between 50 and 70 years.

I have shared it on my fb although most of my contacts are Vic.

I know it is no crime to go missing, but surely when someone has gone silent electronically in this day and age, police should know something is seriously wrong ...

Her friend who started the page on behalf of the family has had some great help from local businesses with printing and laminating posters. They have put some on the fence at the railway car park at Tuggerah where her car was found. You never know when it might just jog someone's memory. Let's hope so.
Christmas is soon upon us and families should be together, or at least not be in a terrible limbo of not knowing what has happened to their loved one. :tears:

I wonder what a difference a bit of media coverage would make ... the Find Leisl Smith page has only 37 likes at this point. I am guessing the lack of media coverage is due to the corresponding lack of info to print - but it's such a contrast to the recent high profile cases in Victoria. :( Am also guessing that those in Leisl's circle of friends/family haven't been prolific Fb users in the past either - unlike the other cases as well.

Anyway ... bumping for Leisl again.

:bump:ing this one for Leisl!

NEWCASTLE HERALD
By DAN PROUDMAN Chief Police Reporter Nov. 14, 2012

The disappearance of Central Coast woman Leisl Smith has baffled investigators. What they do know is that on August 19 – a Sunday afternoon – the 23-year-old drove from her Wallarah home and parked her Honda Accord at Tuggerah train station about 1pm and simply walked away.

CCTV cameras show her walking away from the station and not boarding a train. She has not been seen since. It has prompted a public plea from Strike Force Wehl detectives, who say Ms Smith has not accessed bank accounts nor used her mobile phone since.

‘‘We are asking for people in the horse industry to help us out in locating her, because we are convinced – if nothing comes out of this plea – then we will have to start suspecting that something has happened", Detective Sergeant Paul Laksa said . Strike Force WEHL has been formed by detectives attached to Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command to investigate the disappearance of 23-year-old Leisl.

I was wondering if they should post some pictures of her foal on the FB page? Maybe if Liesl is out there and sees them it might encourage her to get in touch.
