Australia - Martin Place siege: 2 Hostages killed in Lindt Chocolate shop, Dec 2014 - #2

Abbott: Our terror level remains high, at this level an attack remains likely.

Increase in the amount of terror related chatter since Sydney Siege.

Via Sky News.

Media have been hinting this all the way through, so I guess this was their way of getting this theory in print.

Where they say this:

"It is unclear at this stage which hostage is believed to have been hit by the police bullet."

They already know, because then they say this:

It’s believed Tori Johnson died when Monis, who had grown increasingly agitated and erratic as the siege drew on, fired his shotgun at close range, executing the cafe manager.

This shot is thought to have prompted the Tactical Operations Unit to smash in the cafe’s windows and take out the gunman.

Which only leaves Ms Dawson. Terribly sad all around, but the officer involved had a job to do and the person who is to blame is Monis and nobody else, it is very fortunate any of the hostages survived IMO, and we only have the police to thank for it.

Amirah Droudis, wife of gunman Man Monis is being represented by a lawyer here at the inquest

Inquest told ballistics reports are underway so that every shot fired by Monis and police is likely to be accounted for

Police experts from the UK have been called in to conduct an independent assessment of how NSW police reacted to siege

Man Monis had tea and cake at Lindt cafe before taking hostages

Sydney siege gunman Man Monis calmly had a cup of tea and some chocolate cake at the cafe about half an hour before brandishing a shotgun and claiming Australia was "under attack".

Martin Place hostage Katrina Dawson 'struck by police ricochets': inquest

Martin Place hostage Katrina Dawson was struck by up to six ricochets from police bullets as tactical police officers stormed the Lindt Café last year, an inquest has heard.
One of those bullets or fragments of bullets “struck a major blood vessel” and the Sydney barrister died a short time later, counsel assisting the coroner Jeremy Gormly SC told the court in his opening address.

Missing police submission could have prevented Man Monis’ bail

A strongly-worded missive from police urging prosecutors to protest Man Monis' successful bail application reportedly never made it to the Director of Public Prosecutions, leaving the Martin Place siege gunman free to roam the streets.
The police submission was passed to a commissioned officer who did not hand it on, News Corp has reported.

I am wondering when the trial for Amirah Droudis will be held. Anyone know?

Police officers sent farewell texts to loved ones before storming Lindt Cafe

Police officers involved in the Lindt Cafe siege sent farewell messages to their loved ones fearing they would be killed when they stormed the cafe.

As the first anniversary of the siege approaches, it has been revealed a number of officers believed hostage taker Man Monis was carrying explosives and would detonate them if police tried to capture him, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Several police, emergency services workers and people who worked in the vicinity of the Martin Place cafe were traumatised by the events, with at least one police officer still unable to return to work.

Amirah Droudis was 'besotted' with Monis and was a Greek Orthodox before she met Man Haron Monis and became a Muslim

The former partner of Sydney siege gunman Man Haron Monis believed he was "spiritually superior" and was so besotted with him, she killed his ex-wife to please him, NSW prosecutors will allege. Amirah Droudis, 36, has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Monis' former wife Noleen Pal, who was stabbed and set alight at a Werrington apartment block in Sydney's west in 2013.The NSW Supreme Court heard allegations on Thursday that Monis instigated the murder and that Droudis, his then girlfriend, was the killer. The judge-only trial is expected to begin next August but the case returns to court on Friday for a specific start date to be determined.

Man Moris prone to violence, FBI warned

Iranian-born Man Haron Monis attracted the attention of the FBI as someone who had "the potential to incite others to violence", five years before he held 18 people hostage inside a Sydney cafe.
....

The inquest is also examining whether Monis was a lone wolf attempting to carry out an Islamic State group-inspired act, given that it appears he never established contact with the militant movement.
Many believe Monis was simply a disturbed individual who was lashing out against a series of perceived personal injustices.

Man Haron Monis's girlfriend, Amirah Droudis, has been sentenced to 44 years in prison for the stabbing murder of the Sydney siege gunman's ex-wife.

Droudis has been given a non-parole period of 33 years.
