Identified! Australia - Mount Kembla, human remains, New South Wales 27th Sept 2023 - Saverio Ganino

Grant Rodgers, then aged 29, was last seen leaving his home in Albion Park about 7am on Thursday 26 October 1989.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District were notified when he failed to arrive at his workplace in Thirroul later that day.

Grant’s 4WD was found at Mount Kembla the following day, on Friday 27 October 1989.

He has never been seen or heard from since.

Police have confirmed human remains found in thick bushland on the New South Wales south coast are undergoing forensic testing.

No other information about the remains, or how long they may have been at the site, has been released by police.

Further information is expected to be released at a later date.

This seems like a real possibility. If not, then I guess that raises a whole lot more questions - such as who, when and why.
At least if remains are confirmed as Grant’s we can tick the ‘who’ and perhaps ‘when’ off, and provide some semblance of closure to his friends and family.
Thanks for the post Tootsie, hadn’t heard this yet.

Saverio Ganino was last seen by his wife on Wednesday 22 March 2000 when he dropped her off at a bus stop on the Princes Highway, Unanderra.

He failed to attend an appointment later that day. Saverio's vehicle, a gun-metal grey Mitsubishi, was seen later that
evening outside the gates of a dirt track at Mount Kembla.

Extensive searches were made of this area and his vehicle was located, however there was no trace of Saverio. There are concerns for his safety and welfare.

The remains were found in a wooded area off a dirt drive that had a gate leading to it.

Saverio's car was found outside gates leading to a dirt track.

I think it's possible it's him.

Anyway some family and friends will have their loved one home. That's if the remains can be identified.

Behind paywall, this part is visible on Google:

Skeletal remains found during bike track works in the escarpment at Mount Kembla last month have been identified as those of long-term missing Cordeaux Heights man, Saverio Ganino. Police used a DNA match on a missing persons' database to close the case on the 23-year-old mystery of Mr Ganino's whereabouts.

Seeing as his vehicle was found in the Mount Kembla area I suppose this one makes sense. Glad his family finally gets some sort of closure, although hopefully LE can find out exactly what happened here. RIP Mr Ganino.
