Helicopters, mounted police and families from across Queensland have joined the search for a beloved police dog who became separated from his handler while chasing a car thief through bushland west of Brisbane.

Senior Sergeant Steve Lindsey, officer in charge of the Ipswich dog squad, said PD Quizz and his handler were chasing the suspect through thick bushland near Greenwood Village Road at Redbank Plains.

"Very uneven tracking conditions, there's a lot of old mine sites and things like that around here and very heavy bushland," Senior Sergeant Lindsey said.

I hope they find Quizz soon and he's not fallen down a mine shaft.

If someone is holding him, I hope they're caring for him. He's chipped so he'll be discovered sooner or later, they should take him in to a police station.

Why don’t they use another tracking PD to follow his scent ? My DH was a PD Handler for 10 years

I hope they would've used another tracking dog but it hasn't been reported?
Maybe, someone is holding him waiting for a reward offer.

Queensland police are investigating whether missing police dog PD Quizz has been unlawfully taken by a member of the public.

Police have offered a reward for any information that leads to the animal being found.

Ipswich Police Inspector Michael Thiesfield said reported sightings of Quizz were minimal.

"The police dog could be snagged … as he moves around the bush," Inspector Thiesfield said.

I was worried about his tracking lead snagging on a log or broken branch, but it does look like a member of the public has him.

Does anyone know what suburb Quizz and his handler and family actually live in?

The search seems to be focused on Redbank Plains where he went missing, but by this point (if he is still missing alone) he would have been trying to head towards home.

Hard to know investikater, he could come from the Southside. That's a good idea, Quizz could be trying to get home, if so, it widens the area of where a person might live who's got him. I hope he hasn't come to any harm.

Oh, he went missing at 3am, so it would have been so dark out there as well.
I do think it seems unlikely a member of the public would have taken him from the bush at that time in the morning.....

Search scaled back for missing police dog PD Quizz, lost in Queensland bushland

Neither his harness, nor lead have been found.

"My family and I are deeply appreciative of everyone who has given their time to help find our best friend," Senior Constable McGreevy said in a statement.

"He is much loved and is deeply missed. We are heartbroken and miss him every moment he's not with us."

We need to know where his home is so we can expand the search area.

I have heard there is a Facebook group
