Queensland police have opened up a homicide investigation after finding a body at a rural property in Koumala, south of Mackay.

While the woman's body is yet to be identified, police believe it is that of 31-year-old Rene Latimore.

Ms Latimore was reported missing from the Koumala area on August 18 and her last confirmed activity in the region was on August 9.

Police found the body during a search for Ms Latimore yesterday afternoon.
A crime scene has been established and detectives from the Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch and Homicide Investigation Unit are investigating.

Additionally, police are appealing to anyone who had interactions with Ms Latimore before her disappearance that may be able to assist with investigations, to come forward.

A body found on a rural Queensland property has been formally identified as 31-year-old mother Rene Latimore, homicide detectives say.

Detective Inspector Tom Armitt has said the property where the body was found belonged to Ms Latimore's family for "quite some time".

But he said it was recently sold, so recently that the family was yet to vacate the site.

The body of missing mother Rene Latimore was found on the same property detectives allegedly found a massive marijuana crop earlier this year.

Forensic results confirmed the human remains found on the Schirmers Rd property belong to the 31-year-old mother reported missing on August 18.

But Inspector Tom Armitt said detectives had been working on the belief the badly decomposed remains were that of Ms Latimore, found “some distance” from the homestead about 2.30pm on Sunday.

It is understood the Latimore family has owned the Ilbilbie property for decades, but recently sold it to Mackay councillor Marty Bella, a long-term neighbour.

But Cr Bella was yet to be finalised as the former owners still lived there.

The alleged marijuana crop, about 800 plants, was found in February, months before the property was sold.

It has been a crime scene since the grim discovery on Sunday.

There is no suggestion the two incidents are linked.

Inspector Armitt said that would remain in place until “everything forensically required to be done” was completed. He renewed an appeal for anyone who spoke with Ms Latimore in the weeks leading up to August 8, the last-known communication she had with anyone including through social media, to come forward.

“Any thoughts or conversations she had, if she expressed any fears, anything can be useful,” Inspector Armitt said.

“Unless people come forward to tell us that information, we won’t know.

“We have to hear that from people so please don’t hold back. There might be people out there who have had contact with her that we don’t know about, even if it is just an innocuous conversation.”

Police are waiting on forensic results to determine the time and cause of death, as well as the body’s identity.

The recent buyer of RL's family property where her body was found was attacked there in a neighborhood dispute, also in August.
I'm not suggesting it's related but what a string of bad events at that place..

We've conducted extensive forensic investigations at the scene where her body was located, also other premises and buildings within that property," Detective Inspector Tom Armitt said.

"Simply due to the size of the property, it's taken us an extremely long time to do what we've had to do."

Inspector Armitt said police knew the cause of death, but would not be making that information public yet.
