Taxi driver who lived behind the shops, Raymond Peter Mulvihill. Diseased since 2002.
I couldn't get audio but did the police give reasons for naming him as her murderer?
Thank you dotr.
It's bitter sweet news, he lived out his life and never paid for his crime for killing Sharron, and her parents were denied closure while alive. At least Sharron's siblings have an answer to the burning question of who did it, finding her remains would make it complete.
OMG! I thought this day would never come! So pleased for the family to get some kind of closure (and for those wrongly accused/suspected), but heartbroken that they may never have Sharron returned to them. Like many who have driven past her sign, wondered what happened for so long, I'm just grateful his son came forward. I wish he had come forward sooner but I guess he had his reasons. RIP Sharron, you have been in many people's thoughts for many many years, and will continue to be until you are brought home.
I agree. This one was also special in my heart, I hope Sharron's remains are found one day soon.
Amazing news !!!

An inquest into the 1986 disappearance of Sharron Phillips will be reopened after Queensland police revealed they had identified a man believed responsible for her murder.
I feel for Sharon and her family for the difficult times they've been through. Not once do I not wonder what happened to her when I've been traveling that road. It's changed so much in the years but I remember that small black and white Sharron Phillips sign.
Please now let's locate her body.
Sharron's killer was a gentle 'gingerbread man' edged by evil: son
This description of the accused has me wondering if he buried Sharron near a church or cemetery?
A peculiar remark from the journalist under the circumstances!
I haven't read this case for a while, but I remember thinking that Sharron had been taken to a tip out beyond Ipswich.

Sharron Phillips cold case: Younger sister speaks of divided family's pain over 1986 murder

‘"It was like growing up in the eye of a tornado," Sharron Phillips' sister Merlesa reflects, more than 30 years on.
"Imagine the worst possible thing ever happening to you and your family, and then it being dug up every few years."
That is how Merlesa Phillips describes being at the centre of one of Queensland's most infamous cold cases — the disappearance and murder of her sister Sharron Phillips in May 1986.
When 20-year-old Sharron went missing from Wacol, south-west of Brisbane, after running out of petrol 10 kilometres from their family home, Merlesa was just 14.
"I remember sitting at the kitchen table with my mum and my dad and them reporting to the police that Sharon had gone missing and they couldn't find her," she said.
It was that scenario that Merlesa Phillips describes as the moment her childhood came to an end.’

"Ian Mulvihill told police his father Raymond confessed to the murder on his deathbed 15 years ago.
Last year he told ABC News the same thing that his father was responsible and had confessed to killing A Number Of Women, including Ms Phillips."
A number of women ?
Nothing would surprise me. I expect we’ll hear more from QPOL Cold Case Squad about this in the future.
