AN Ipswich man who is accused of brutally murdering a French student who was walking home after attending a late university lecture has had his matter briefly mentioned in court.
Benjamin Milward, 25, was not present on Monday in the Brisbane Magistrates Court as the prosecution asked for a further two weeks to collect the last remaining materials that are central to the case.
AN Ipswich man has admitted he murdered and raped French university student Sophie Collombet, dumping her body by the banks of the Brisbane River.
Benjamin James Milward, who turns 28 in two days, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court this morning to murder and rape on March 27, 2014.
He was due to face a trial in less than two weeks, in the week of October 24.
Life imprisonment is the only sentence he can receive when he is sentenced on October 26.
Justice Lyons said his drinking and drug taking was no excuse for what he did.
She said Ms Collombet was "a young woman with a life ahead of her, a life full of hopes and dreams".
"You ended all that — this young woman died at your hands, you have caused her death," she said.
"You allowed your sexual desires to overwhelm you, your actions were cowardly."
The court heard Ms Collombet survived for several hours after the brutal attack, with prosecutor Todd Fuller saying she had 128 external injuries, including skull fractures.
The court heard Milward could only remember some of his actions, but told police when arrested: "What I've done is just *advertiser censored****g horrible".

Hi Celia,Hello,
I'm a close friend of Sophie, I'm French.
I dont know why I'm reading this forum several years after her death...but I just would like to thanks U for yr support 8 years ago.... We have no doubts that Australian people are kind and nice. We were very touched by your love and your thoughts.
When we discovered that she disapared since 3/4 days and that a body was found, we understood immediatly , especially with the photos of her jewelry posted on the net.
Pain and sadness are still here.
Sophie was an amazing person, loved and brilliant. She miss us every day. We continu our life without her, she was my childhood friend and I'm now 31, I'm so sad that she doesn't see all that I've accomplished and all that her brothers and friends accomplished too. Her parents are incredible strongs too, and I think she is so proud of them.
So, thanks U for your nice comments and support.
Life must go on...
(I'm sorry if my english is not good).
Hi Celia,
