Detective Jubelin just spoke to Chris Smith on radio 4bc Brisbane. These are notes I took from that conversation. Apologies for overlapping with anything said else today.

Have spoken to in excess of 4000 people
    2800 crime stoppers reports
Compiled over 11 000 pieces of information
    600 exhibits
1078 possible sightings - most sightings in NSW, substantial amount interstate, some overseas
Wants to make clear that detectives have not run out of info. The timing of this reward is strategic
The reward is a tool to help find out what has happened.
The net has been cast wide.

It's unacceptable to us as police that we haven't solved this

"The timing of this reward is strategic." Is somebody due out of jail soon?

It's difficult to speculate because we don't know what the police know. IMO it seems that the police are trying to play one off against another with the offer of the reward. GJ said that if the abductor has confided in anyone, he/she would be getting very worried now. He also stated that there are covert operations in place and this could mean that phones and cars are now being tapped in the likelihood that people start to talk, or more importantly told not to talk.

Play one off against the other ! That's the exact feel I got from what he said in the radio interview. Get in first. If someone else comes to them first then you miss out. They must be thinking that more than 1 person knows what's happened.

Thanks wwgy and no need to apologise. 600 exhibits! I would love to know what they are! Just looking at the numbers in your list, it is one very huge job that the police have in front of them.

Who, amongst the POIs of whom we know 'publicly', and those of whom are not known 'publicly'; would come under the perview of the SCC's Robbery and Serious Crimes, Sex Crimes, and Fraud and Cybercrimes Squads?

Very specifically referred to in (now DCI!) Gary Jubelin's presser. It might bear thinking over a little IMO.

To me that would indicate not opportunistic or a random crime, but organised crime with motives not being centred around self sexual gratification. Not saying that is what I think, just that all those options are being looked at. MOO

Known POI KL, extortion, kidnap and ransom?, Possibly fraud, Unknown POI's related to KL, possibly kidnap, fraud?
Known POI NC, extortion, kidnap and ransom?
    KNown POI DN, sex crimes
    Known POI PB, sex crimes
Known POI BS may come under fraud and cybercrime, for having assets taken by police and his computer in particular. Sex crimes
Known POI AJ under fraud, he may have had assets seized and searched. Sex crimes
Unknown POI, possibly an ex family member to AJ, but he would fall under organised crime, for activity around the racing industry.
Unknown POI, for extortion, kidnap and ransom, targeting the family, surely police would know bout this early in the piece, even if we didn't. Stats on this are kept quiet, anecdotally I hear this is on the rise and victims try not to involve police through a certain culture.

I think they may have a semi strong/reasonable circumstantial case against a POI and this reward is to get a witness/whistleblower to go along with what they already have so they can possibly find the body/or William if alive and take it to trial. Just a theory.

I didn't hear DCI(!) Jubelin say the words 'random' or 'opportunistic' this morning; but 'human intervention' involved in William's disappearance, ie; kidnapping/abduction. Hmm...

With the POI's we've known about in this case, I sometimes wonder, like other sleuthers if the real targets are the next generation down from the POI's and a lot of pressure is being put on their parents publicly. MOO

I am also leaning this way as well. I think they know, they just need to prove it.

I would like to think he is alive. The information can be hard to interpret sometimes. Some statement make me think they think he is alive, others make me think he isnt.

Either way i think they are closing in and i think there will be some people shaking in their shoes right now.

I was thinking more along the lines of a POI, either known or unknown 'publicly', who has a history of committing offences under all of those crime categories; perhaps. I can think of two off the top of my head; one is AJ <modsnip>.

so after watching this mornings press release, im wondering why they purposefully waited a year to update the public?
was it simply because they had decided they would announce the offer of a reward on the two year anniversary?
i didnt find the release to be "substantial"only the reward

I'm not meaning to be cruel, but this case has allowed my imagination to take off on many different tangents, and I have wondered, who or what could profit financially or in other ways from a mysterious child disappearance?

I can think of a disturbing scenario where one criminal might pay off a debt to another criminal by promising he can obtain a child for the other criminal's personal (disgusting, filthy) desires, for want of a better way to put it.

If you seriously think he has fallen into a septic tank or drain, for a million dollars, you should be rushing to search these systems and claim the reward, wouldn't take a long time for you to search them.

They'd definitely know by now if he was down any of these drainage or sewerage systems, it's not like these systems are set and forget, they're regularly maintained and you'd know if a body was in there.

I think it's time to let this theory go.
