Fri, 5.15pm: The darkness is closing in, but the searchers are not going anywhere.

Police Inspector Mick Aldridge said PolAir has returned to Sydney after extensive aerial searches.

"But we're not leaving - we'll continue all the way through the night," he said.

Inspector Aldridge said police officers, SES volunteers and concerned residents will search the area, which includes state forests, during the night and as morning begins.

I hate it when cases like this go cold. Add it to a long sad, dreary list of unsolved mysteries. :rose:

i have been studying this photo of william a lot, its the only real evidence police have given showing he was at his grandmothers that day, does anyone else think it looks strange? that straight v shape under him especially? its never seemed right somehow?
in google search this photo now seems to have his sister and grandmothers feet chopped out, hard to find the full photo anymore.

ubm: no that doesn't look weird to me .... it's the gap under his leg ((long legs and his bum was partly in air))

what always struck me odd is that it looked a bit chilly for him to have no socks or shoes on --- sis looks like she's wearing warmer gear...little guy doesn't have a lot of beef on him -- very slightly built as he was out of his baby fat phase for sure. JMHO

I notice in this article it says where the dad's errands took him. Not surprising, as they had only arrived the day before, and grandma probably did not have a stocked pantry/fridge to be ready for them if she was unwell, and if it was a surprise visit.

..... his dad arrived home from the shops to learn of the news and started his own frantic search.

It is hard to keep shoes on some Aussie kids. We have one of those kids in our family. Takes them off and leaves them wherever. Argues about having them on in the first place. No matter what the temp is like. It looks like someone made sure William had an undershirt (or more) on under the spiderman outfit though.

And they evidently got those sandals on him before they let him run around the yard. They probably have rules like ours .... no doing this unless you have shoes on, no doing that unless you have shoes on ... because we struggle to get shoes to be a part of the normal everyday thing with this particular youngster.

I have always thought that it was a strange photo. Look's to me like someone said something that he didn't like that's why he has spun around sent his crayons flying then they took the photo. Why would you take that sort of photo? Only reason I can think of was to show that William could have a moment, but what kid doesn't so beats me.

It's a candid photo. Looks like my youngest grandson showing off his "dinosaur ROAR"..which is adorable and makes everyone laugh.

My heart goes out to this family every day.

Can anyone make out what make of truck that is? Also, what is that between the 2 seats? It seems to have 2-3 handheld devices on it. I saw another photo where I could see more of the bottom of it. It had open grillwork like a computer.

Is it a forest ranger's car or emergency vehicle? Does anyone know?

This photo and more are on http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2760087/Police-believe-William-Tyrell-3-picked-car-crews-preparing-search-roads-nearby-forest-hope-finding-alive-fades.html

I thought it was a Fire Engine.
Emergency services often go to ChildCare Centres and Kindys etc to show the children how things work and to make them a bit more comfortable around them.
They also get taught what to do in emergencies.
Not really sure thats just my take on this photo. But really it could have been taken at a fete, maybe a friend is part of the services, many things I guess. MOO

"William up until a month ago was obsessed with all things fire engine and would tell us his name was 'Firefighter William', a future he deserves to fulfil.

"We pray and hope that our 'Firefighter William' comes home soon."

I think it may just be the grainy photo that gives that effect.

They would have to be some kind of super-duper expert cutter if they cut and paste William into that photo imo.

See the floorboards between William’s leg, and under his right arm? And his hair spiked up a little all over the top of his head? That would be one heck of a precise cut job to allow that kind of detail to show as it does – without losing any of the background of the patio.
