American Airlines passenger, 25, sprayed people with a liquid before jumping from plane in Phoenix | Daily Mail Online

Authorities say a passenger on an American Airlines flight that had just landed in Phoenix sprayed other passengers with mystery liquid and then opened one of the jet's doors and jumped from the plane to the tarmac.

Phoenix police spokesman Tommy Thompson says the man randomly touched passengers' faces and sprayed them with liquid from a spray bottle after the American Airlines flight from Minneapolis arrived Friday morning at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at 6.12am.

Thompson says the man was escorted to the front of the plane but opened a service door and jumped out.

American Airlines released a statement, that said: 'American had requested law enforcement meet flight 1346 upon arrival in Phoenix due to a disruptive passenger. Once the flight arrived at the gate, the passenger opened one of doors and jumped off the aircraft. Law enforcement and paramedics responded.'

Arrived 6:12Am meaning an overnight flight. Makes you really wonder about Ambien. Or maybe just crazy (more likely).

I take an overnight flight from LAX > IND fairly often. It attracts an 'interesting' group of passengers.

Where does Ambien come into this story? And, if we can't take liquids in a plane, where did it come from? He had to have grabbed it from airline supplies?

bbm That's a good question. Either it was missed before boarding, or it was something the airline had on board. Or it was a tiny bottle, could be also, you are allowed very small amounts. I hope they find out what it is real soon. That would scare the daylights out of me.

I promise you an airplane does not stock prescription sleep meds.

Again - Ambien is a pill and you are allowed ( in fact encouraged) to take your prescription meds on a plane. It was just a random thought as we know Ambien can have weird side effects.

MMJ, I wasn't talking about Ambien or anything that could have caused this person's behavior. I'm talking about what he might have sprayed these people with. It's being described as an 'unidentified liquid from a spray bottle'.
You are allowed small quantities on board but if it was a larger spray bottle, it was either missed, or on the plane somewhere.

I know what Ambien is etc. just trying to find out if MSM said he had taken that. Now I get it, random thought.

I always carry a 2 oz spray bottle of organic hand sanitizer, including the times I've boarded an airplane.
My tiny bottle gets over 100 sprays which could easily be directed at the faces of other people!
Based on the 'rules', someone could have many small liquid bottles as carry-on items.

Here are the government rules:
Learn What I Can Bring on the Plane

Learn What I Can Bring on the Plane
TSA and our security partners conducted extensive explosives testing since August 10, 2006 and determined that liquids, aerosols and gels, in limited quantities, are safe to bring aboard an aircraft. The one bag limit per traveler limits the total amount each traveler can bring. Consolidating the bottles into one bag and X-raying them separately from the carry-on bag enables security officers to quickly clear the items.

  • 3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3.4 ounce (100ml) bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 ounce (100ml) container size is a security measure.
  • Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.
  • 3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.
  • Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint. Officers may need to open these items to conduct additional screening.
