AZ AZ - Amy Yachimec, 13, Phoenix, 6 Nov 1981

My mother and my brother still live in Phoenix, I currently live in Tucson. I moved to Canada to live with my dad shortly after my sister's disappearance. My brother's name is William, and my name is Anita. I am the year younger sister. We lived with my mom, in my grandmother's apartments.

Thank you and thanks for explaining the meaning to me. Being half a lifetime ago and 8 moves most of my childhood items have either disappeared or still packed away in a box somewhere. Having just finished the last move a week ago I'm up to my elbows in boxes but will try my best to see what pictures I can come up with.

I've tried searching myself over the years online for information and old archived newspaper articles and had no luck but then again I've never done anything like this before. Maybe some of you would have a better chance finding some info. The papers at that time that ran the articles were The Arizona Republic and The Phoenix Gazette both located in Phoenix Arizona (Maricopa County). The Phoenix Police Department Investigated the disappearance.

As I've said I don't know where to find her family and even though we walked home together and talked at school neither of us ever visited the others homes. I know she lived with her grandma, mother and older brother. She never mentioned a father so I'm assuming he was out of the picture. Although her brother hung out with me occasionally in high school I can't for the life remember his name and it's driving me crazy. For some reason Michael keeps coming to mind but I'm not sure if that was it or not. Am hoping to run into my old yearbooks while unpacking and renovating. Hopefully he had his pictures taken. I'll try to come up with whatever else I can as well and post them.

Thank you again :)

Limited information was not the case, they had a lot of information, but back then without a body they were not able to solve her case. The photo was of great quality when this all happened but unfortunately with all the scans and stuff it has gotten somewhat distorted.

This one makes me wonder about the family. looks like limited info was provided about what she had been doing, where she was going.... and then the only photo they can provide is one of such poor quality? Maybe all this means nothing, but...

As bad as this may sound, I know more details then I thought I ever would. I met with the detectives a few years ago as I was only 12 when it happened, and at my age now, I wanted the truth and wanted answers. The hardest part is knowing that she was murdered but her remains have never been found. I think the greatest thing in the world would be to find her remains and finally lay her to rest in a respectful way that she so deserves. I know that someone out there has to know more.

From what the detectives have told me. She went with the neighbors on the evening she disappeared and they went to a party. I guess the adult male Raymond Diaz who took her was joking at his cousins house where the party was held that he wanted to have sex with her, and his cousin forbid it to happen in his house. There are a few sketchy details as to all the events that happened after that. What we do know for sure is that she was taking out south on the 51 past the casino in a very bushy area and was raped and murdered. The gentle man and his then pregnant girlfriend returned back to my grandmother's apartments and immediately came to our door and asked what was wrong, which my mother and grandmother at the time found to be very odd, as there was no indication there was anything wrong. One thing that was odd as well is that the man had no clothing on, his girlfriend had to run into the apartment and get him a blanket. They left not long after arriving home, from what the police know, they went back and buried my sister's body, and to this day her remains have still not been found.

More than 31 years after the disappearance of her friend, a Phoenix woman is turning to social media to answer her biggest questions and to help solve the case.

Like many of us, Jessica Martinez has fond memories of her grade school friends.

She still has the photographs from her days in the classroom.

~snip~

The attention caught the eyes of authorities including those at Silent Witness who have posted a $1,000 reward and are helping to publicize the case.

Now, the story is hitting the airwaves in addition to fiber and copper cables of the internet.

In fact, police say they are following up on leads that could identify the killer.

Someone else mentioned Blairstown Doe, I was researching her when I came across Amy. Amy is a good match. She is in the height/weight range for Jane Doe, she has brown hair, as does Jane Doe, she is in the correct age range, and has pierced ears. Jane Doe was found July 15, 1982 at a cemetery in Blairstown, NJ. Here is the namus info
https://identifyus.org/en/cases/1513
Question for her sister, was Amy's left ear double pierced?

also would she have had or worn a gold chain with a gold cross pendant necklace? The cross was quite ornate.

If the artist sketch of Blairstown Jane Doe is accurate, it really does resemble Amy very much. I wish the picture of Amy was not a black and white, I would like to be able to see her hair color better.

Hi Anita. Im having a really hard time processing the fact that all of this information you were given led to no prosectution. Im so sorry for the pain you and your family have gone through because of this. Obviously there are hundreds if not thousands of men named Raymond Diaz. Do you know what became of him? Where he hass lived throughout the years? That kind of crime does not sound like it would be his last and Im just concerned he may very well be a serial killer/rapist. Your sister is a probable match to Princess Doe found in Blairstown, NJ. She may have been murdered by Arthur Kinlaw and while his wife watched. I noticed Amy has no DNA submitted on her behalf, it would be most helpful if you could provide a sample....

Happy to see a couple of posters here who knew Amy personally. I'm curious though, as one poster says Amy was scared of these neighbors, but her sister says they befriended her. Was she ever afraid of them? Or was she initially afraid of them, only to have them befriend her later? Vice Versa? Just curious. I know a lot of years have passed, but this case is a curious one!

Was this unidentified child ever submitted as a match with Amy?

http://doenetwork.org/cases/72uftx.html

It really seems like a possible match to me.

Beyond the similar looking composite:

Amy's height is listed at 5'3", decedents height is 4'8-5'2" which seems close enough to consider.

Amy was age 13 years 9 months, decedent is listed as 14-18 which is also very close.

Hair colour of both is brown, both appear similar build.

AND, the blue terry cloth shirt is listed as Amy having worn, decedent is listed as wearing a blue/white terry cloth shirt.

Amy is missing from Arizona and decedent is found in Texas, BUT, she was found beside a hwy overpass where she'd likely been dumped so the killer could have been traveling.

Time span fits. Amy missing November 1981, decedent found skeletanized Jan 1, 1984 thought to have died at least 1 year prior....Amy would have been missing just over 2 years at that point.
