GUILTY AZ - Cynthia Tureman, 28, charged in death of newborn, Scottsdale, 27 April 2007

Cynthia Joyce Tureman

After first denying that she'd been pregnant, she admitted that she'd secretly given birth that morning and that the baby had been moving. She changed her story the next day. Suddenly, she wasn't sure that the baby was born alive.

The medical examiner ruled it a homicide but later agreed with a defense expert that without her statement, he couldn't be certain the baby was born alive.

And so mommy dearest got a sweet deal. Prosecutors dropped the charge from first-degree murder to manslaughter and child abuse and she pleaded guilty. Even then, she could have gotten 12 years plus the lifetime probation required by the plea. Deputy County Attorney Jeanine Sorrentino asked for 10.

Her attorney, John Curry, asked for mercy, noting that she had a clean record, that the “victims” support leniency and that her now-four children – she found a boyfriend while awaiting trial and gave birth in February – need her.

I will just say that Judge Martin gave her five years in prison. Five.

umm what victims support lienency? surely not the one she murdered!

im so sick of this nonsense.

According to court records, the Turemans moved to Scottsdale from Spokane, Wash., in January 2006. Seven months later, she returned for a visit and hooked up with an old boyfriend

What attack? Attack of lust? Dementia? Guilty conscious? Maybe she meant she attacked the ex-boyfriend?
