CHARLESTON, S.C. - Portions of a major downtown street were closed off Friday while bomb squad officers investigate a suspicious package.

Police said the package, which appears attached to a cell phone, was found lying near parked cars on Calhoun Street before 9 a.m. ET.

I'm still trying to find out more info on this.

Police have detonated a a suspicious package found in downtown Charleston after evacuating the area.

Police evacuated the area near the College of Charleston campus after the package was found just after 9:00am on the sidewalk near a parked car outside the BellSouth building on the corner of Calhoun and Coming.

Yikes. That's a pretty active area.

I love Charleston and can't wait to get back there next year.
