I hope neither DM or MS have a long-lost identical twin! :scared:

I was thinking more along the line of, "So DM's DNA was there in his body in his saliva, blood etc? He wasn't trying to hide it?"

Back in the courtroom now. Evidence to continue shortly.
by Adam Carter 2:12 PM

Jury now being recalled.

#Bosma jury about to come back from lunch for more DNA lessons. We are learning how experts compare profiles

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 51s51 seconds ago
Jury is back after lunch. #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 37s37 seconds ago
Jury back James Sloots still in the witness box talking DNA 101.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 35s35 seconds ago
Jury is back and DNA expert Sloots is still in the stand. #Bosma

Sloots explaining how to compare DNA profiles.

Sloots is back in the witness box. Court is seeing a slide about comparing DNA profiles.
by Adam Carter 2:20 PM

When a person cannot be excluded as the source of a DNA profile, it means one of two things: either the person is the source, or the person is not the source and a coincidental match has occurred.
by Adam Carter 2:24 PM

Sloots now discussing "coincidental matches" -- and the probability of that happening with DNA testing.
by Adam Carter 2:25 PM

"Even though there are 'only' seven billion people in earth, a probability of one in 500 billion or trillion does not prove identity," the report reads.
by Adam Carter 2:26 PM

Scientists can also derive DNA profiles from mixtures found at a site.
by Adam Carter 2:26 PM

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 43s43 seconds ago
When a person cannot be excluded as source of DNA profile the person is the source or they are a coincidental match.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 1m1 minute ago
Coincidence is measured by Random Match Probability.

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 56s57 seconds ago
The chance of two randomly selected individuals sharing the same DNA profile is akin to winning the lottery, according to Sloots

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 34s35 seconds ago
Sloots explaining how someone is excluded or not excluded from a DNA match. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 59s60 seconds ago
There are 7 billion people on earth.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 20s21 seconds ago
When someone cannot be excluded as a source (because their DNA appears to match the sample), a 'random match probability' is given. #Bosma

Fraser now asking abut the Castle Meyer test, which is used to check for blood. It was used in this case.
by Adam Carter 2:29 PM

The Castle Meyer is a "very specific" test to find the presence of blood, Sloots says. "It's a very reliable and a very sensitive test for blood."
by Adam Carter 2:30 PM

Apparently one of the only things that can set off that test aside from blood is freshly squeezed sprouts from beans. They'd be green though, and not darker like a bloodstain would be.
by Adam Carter 2:31 PM

We're now actually getting into the body of Sloots' evidence for the Bosma case.
by Adam Carter 2:32 PM

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 1m1 minute ago
Ex. of an RMP: "the probability that a randomly selected individual unrelated to mr Smith would coincidentally share (1/2)

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 37s37 seconds ago
...the observed DNA profile is estimated to be 1 in X (ex. 1 in 10 billion)." #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 1m1 minute ago
Now explaining Kastle Meyer blood test. Take sample at scene, add chemicals, reaction turns bright pink if blood is present.

May 14, 2013 report on shoes of Millard seized on his May 10 arrest. No blood detected. Also leaves from below Eliminator tested. No blood.

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 24s24 seconds ago
Sloots says the shoes of Dellen Millard and the leaves below the Eliminator were tested for blood and none was detected

Alex Pierson ‏@AlexpiersonAMP 28s28 seconds ago
May 14-2013 millards shoes collected at arrest. No blood. Bone samples in Eliminator No DNA. @AM900CHML #TimBosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 25s25 seconds ago
According to May 14, 2013 CFS report, Millard's shoes were seized on arrest and tested for blood. No blood was detected. #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 23s23 seconds ago
Bone samples taken from the Eliminator were taken for DNS analysis but none was detected according to Sloots

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 24s25 seconds ago
Leaves collected from below the Eliminator were also examined for blood. Again, none was detected. #Bosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 19s20 seconds ago
May 15 tested bone samples from Eliminator. No DNA found. High heat "destroys DNA." Bones were "highly compromised." Seeing photo of bone.

Millard's shoe were seized on arrest and they were examined for blood, but none were detected.
by Adam Carter 2:32 PM

Leaves underneath the eliminator were also tested for blood, but none was found there either, Sloots says.
by Adam Carter 2:33 PM

Bone samples from the Eliminator were also submitted to CFS, but no DNA was detected. Court previously heard that was because of the extreme heat of the incinerator.
by Adam Carter 2:34 PM

"High heat essentially reduces things to ash, so it destroys DNA," Sloots says. "They looked highly compromised to me."
by Adam Carter 2:35 PM

Court now seeing photos of one of the bones found in the Eliminator. Sloots says he told police right away once he saw the bones that he didn't expect he'd be able to get any DNA from them.
by Adam Carter 2:36 PM

Court now seeing photos of the blood that was found on Bosma's truck.
by Adam Carter 2:36 PM

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 25s25 seconds ago
No blood was found on Dellen #Millard shoes or on leaves below incinerator. No DNA was left in bones collected from incinerator #TimBosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 13s13 seconds ago
Sloots says there was no DNA detected from bone samples taken from Eliminator

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 11s11 seconds ago
bone samples were tested to see if DNA profiles suitable for comparison could be generated. No DNA was detected. #Bosma

We all know lawyers and Crown Att's have co-counsels or assistant Crown att's. However, does anyone know if a judge has the ability to consult other judges during a trial on a matter of law, so they can make the correct ruling.

I imagine with all these legal arguments that the judge has to make decisions on, some of those decisions may be critical to preventing the eventual possibility of a mistrial or grounds for appeal. If I were the judge having to make dozens of rulings on these legal arguments each week, I would probably want to get another's opinion from time to time.

And I am certain Judge Goodman is being very cautious in making his decisions and rulings when it comes to the defense wanting to hold legal arguments without jurors present. The last thing he needs and wants is a mistrial, hung jury or appeals. JMO.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 28s28 seconds ago
Bones were "highly compromised," Sloots says. Did not expect to find DNA. #Bosma

July 15 2013 report. Testing of #Bosma truck. Sloots was at @OPP_News garage collecting evidence from truck.

Alex Pierson ‏@AlexpiersonAMP 11s11 seconds ago
Blood tests done on Bosma truck. Lots of blood found on passenger seat. Underneath truck.@AM900CHML #TimBosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 23s24 seconds ago
Don't test every stain found at scene. Select samples taken to CFS lab. #Bosma

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 17s17 seconds ago
Now seeing photos of #Bosma truck. Sloots was at the OPP Tillsonburg facility collecting evidence.

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 12s13 seconds ago
Sloots helped examine #TimBosma truck. Found a lot of blood in passenger area inside & outside of truck

"A lot of blood was found inside and outside of this vehicle," Sloots says. Many stains were sampled out of an "abundance of caution," he says.
by Adam Carter 2:37 PM

A DNA reference sample was taken from Bosma's toothbrush. Court now seeing a photo of blood sampled from underneath the truck. "Tim Bosma cannot be excluded as the source of that DNA profile," Sloots says. The chances of it coming from someone else are 1 in 18 quadrillion, he says.

Boom!!

God, it hurts to even read that tweets. Hugs for The Bosmas

Photo of B Pillar underneath #Bosma truck with stain that tested positive for blood. Later used Tim #Bosma's toothbrush for DNA.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 3m3 minutes ago
They do not test every stain found at the scene, Sloots explains. Select samples are sent off to CFS for further testing. #Bosma

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 3m3 minutes ago
Sloots says they compared blood stains found underneath the #Bosma truck to Tims toothbrush for DNA

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
#Bosma cannot be excluded as source of blood on B Pillar on truck. 1/18000000000000000 chance it matches someone other than Bosma.

Lisa Hepfner ‏@HefCHCHNews 2m2 minutes ago
Chance that blood found on truck was not #TimBosma 's: 1 in 18 quadrillion.

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 2m2 minutes ago
Seeing photo of.underside of #Bosma truck. Stain to left of 'B' pillar tested positive for blood. Tim Bosma could not be excluded as a match

Alex Pierson ‏@AlexpiersonAMP 2m2 minutes ago
A blood sample and Tim Bosmas tooth brush would help identify the missing man. @AM900CHML #TimBosma

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 2m2 minutes ago
Swab from area where back seat bolted into #Bosma truck was also tested.

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 2m2 minutes ago
He says Tim #Bosma cannot be excluded as the source of DNA at 1 in 18 quadrillion

molly hayes ‏@mollyhayes 1m1 minute ago
RMP: there was a 1 in 18 quadrillion chance it matches someone other than #Bosma, he says. Bosma's toothbrush was used for DNA comparison.

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 52s52 seconds ago
He looked into holes where seat bolts in. Found 3.5X5 cm blood stain. Swabbed it.

Colin Butler ‏@ColinButlerCBC 16s16 seconds ago
Sloots says he also sampled an area of the truck where it "looked like someone had been deceased and bleeding"

Susan Clairmont ‏@susanclairmont 23s24 seconds ago
Sorry, that was from where front seat bolts in-not back.

Sloots is now explaining how he looked into holes where seats and the seatbelt apparatus would bolt in in the front of the truck. He found a bloodstain there, too.
by Adam Carter 2:44 PM

Again, just to clarify -- the blood found in Bosma's truck was a DNA match for Bosma. The chances of it coming from someone else were 1 in 18 quadrillion, tests showed.
by Adam Carter 2:46 PM

Sloots worked on the Bosma truck himself to examine it -- something that doesn't happen too often, he says.
by Adam Carter 2:49 PM

Court now seeing photos again in the area from where blood was found where the front seats would usually be bolted in. Bosma's truck was found without the seats in the front.
by Adam Carter 2:51 PM
