LOL.... this isn't considered cussing, is it, mods? if so i'll change the name. anyway..... this is a outright CHALLENGE to all your websleuthers out there (myself included)... to BOYCOTT CHINA and their crappy goods!!! the reasons?? they make cheap junk that falls apart after the 3rd time you use it most of these goods are made in horrendous sweatshops guilty of human rights abuses they have ZERO regard to the environment... and ZERO regard for the health and safety of their consumers.. they have ZERO regard for the lives of our children, and the lives of our pets!! they have ZERO regard and respect for making QUALITY GOODS.. which used to be what america was world-famous for. all they care about is making the fattest profit possible at ANY cost! they are communist, if you don't want to support communism then don't buy their stuff. and.. we DO want to support AMERICAN WORKERS and bring back the american economy, don't we?? do we want our landfills to fill up with cheap plastic broken chinese stuff? (not that the US doesn't manufacture plastic or junk sometimes.. but china is famous for making things that don't last.) and while we're all it.. american chinese food is pretty disgusting too. who knows what's in that stuff? is the chicken really chicken...?? or is that what happens to the sweatshop slave workers who try to escape?? much healthier to eat vietnamese or thai, if you're hungry for asian food. so here's a list of places where you can search for non-chinese products: http://www.madeinusa.org/ http://www.usstuff.com/prodlac.htm http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/09/19/made-in-the-u-s-a-what-products-are-still-made-in-america/ http://www.stillmadeinusa.com/shoppingindex.html (there is a good list of APPLIANCES here).. http://store.americanapparel.net/?kw=Main LP http://www.harryepstein.com/ (american made tools) http://www.maplelandmark.net/type.lasso (great wooden toys!) http://www.braided.com/Examples.htm (braided rugs) http://bowlmill.com/ (beautiful wooden bowls made in vermont since 1857!) http://www.buyhard.fsnet.co.uk/non_chinese_products.htm (list of goods made in the US and other non-china places) http://www.dansko.com/Home.aspx- (dansko shoes which i'm pretty sure are still NOT made in china) ethical consumer magazine- http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/ and my favorite!!- http://www.localharvest.org/ (great locally-made food products & lists of farmer's mkts throughout the US!) so you see friends,, (and i'm learning this myself too.. this is a pep talk for all of us).. it CAN be done. the trick is,, we can't just got to bed bath & beyond or target or home depot and just grab something when we want it. we have to do our RESEARCH online, EDUCATE ourselves... and plan ahead. we are such a culture of 'i want it, and i want it NOW!' that we have paid a steep price for our addiction to convenience. do we have the discipline to just NOT go into these stores? this is how they 'get us'. we just need to RETRAIN ourselves... which takes time and determination. do we all know where the closest mom & pop hardware store is? when's the last time you've been to it? if you need something at 9 PM, can you wait til the next day to get it? when you need groceries, are you willing to make a plan to start buying the bulk of your food at the local organic farmer's markets on saturday mornings? or go out of your way to the nearest health food store? speaking of which.... i joined a CSA a few months ago... and i absolutely LOVE IT! i get a huge box of in-season, just-picked produce delivered to a site near me which i just go and pick up, after paying at the beginning of the season. it's a HUGE time-saver and a money saver too. anyway.. these are just some questions to SERIOUSLY start asking ourselves if this issue really does mean anything to us. thoughts..........??
