Between 1999 and 2012 is a heck of a long time for a guy like Lavergne to go without committing the same crime again. In criminological patterns it just doesn't sit right. 13 years? Hmmmm

BSL was in jail from February 2000 until August 9, 2008 for a 1999 oral sexual battery charge. You can view his criminal history here: http://www.katc.com/news/brandon-lavergne-s-legal-criminal-timeline/#_

"02/11/2000: Lavergne booked into jail in Evangeline Parish on an aggravated oral sexual battery charge where he would serve eight years.....08/09/2008: Lavergne is released from the Evangeline Parish jail on the aggravated oral sexual battery charge."

I agree with you, though. Between when he got out of jail in 2008 and kidnapped Mickey in 2012, I have a hard time believing he didn't attack any women. Apparently he traveled around quite a bit. I wonder if there are other cases around the country that he's responsible for. Since he was driving around calling escort services the night he took Mickey, I also wonder if there aren't some escorts out there that he killed who just haven't been reported missing because of their "lifestyle." It seems as though none of the escorts would take his calls that night....which makes me wonder if he had a history of abusing escorts and was blacklisted by the escorts in the area. I'm also not necessarily convinced Lisa was the first woman he ever killed.

I think it's highly possible that BSL is responsible for other murders besides those of Mickey and Lisa. All of the women of Acadiana and beyond have got to be thankful this monster is locked up forever.

Thinking of Mickey, Lisa, and any unknown victims of BSL...... :rose:

the pumpkin is kinda freaky .... eerie ... KWIM?

Thought the same thing, B4igo2it..
Ironically, a few minutes ago, I had just posted on the Colleen Ritzer(MA) ws thread a link to Illusions; an org that uses art interpretation for communications. 14 year old Philip Chism has admitted to the murder, but will not reveal the motive. PC regularly sketches in a notebook which may reveal the motive..

The carving in the pumpkin is supposed to look like the image of Mickey riding her bike with her hands up in the air (a picture that was on the Find Mickey facebook). It was also on some shirts that said Ragin Cajuns and also worn on UL's football helmets last year in her honor. http://1079ishot.com/ul-football-team-to-honor-mickey-shunick/

I think it's neat that someone tried to carve the image on the pumpkin. Not spooky to me in the least but I'm used to seeing that image on shirts, etc around Lafayette.

Also, those flowers look like some beautiful orchids.

On the eve of the first anniversary of Mickey Shunick's disappearance, her friends have announced two projects that will be launched in Mickey's memory.

In a press release, the family and friends of Shunick said that a new non-profit foundation will be started in her name. This organization will assist search efforts in future missing persons cases and will help the families and friends of those who have gone missing.

The other project involves two of Shunick's friends--Ryan Talley and Lindsay Beggs--who will take a cross-country bike trip in Mickey's honor. Along the way, the pair will build affordable housing during their stops.

The release also asks the family to respect the Shunick Family's privacy.

Lafayette police veterans retiring after 30-plus years
Both men also agree on the biggest case to hit Lafayette during their tenure: the murder of Michaela “Mickey” Shunick and the hunt for her killer, Brandon Lavergne, who is serving two life sentences in the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.
After Shunick disappeared in May 2012 and the days stretched into doubt that she’d be found alive, investigators drew up a profile of a killer who was a serial offender.

“We knew we were chasing one homicide, and the feelings were we knew there’s more out there,” Head said. “We just need to get to this guy, take him down and find out where the rest of the bodies are.”

After Lavergne was captured, he confessed to Shunick’s murder and also to the murder of Lisa Pate in 1999.

Vincent said he and his detectives also believed there would be more victims linked to Lavergne. So far that has not happened.

“In this particular case, we felt we would have,” Vincent said. “But nothing has surfaced that connects him.”

I hope that even after retiring they will continue to keep open eyes for any other cold cases that may cause them to think BSL was involved. Like them, I doubt Mickey and Lisa were his only victims, even if nothing else has presented itself yet.

These officers were onto what had happened within days of the investigation (as were many WSers). Good job, officers. Thank you for your service and for helping to bring Acadiana's hero, Mickey Shunick, home.
