Breaking News: Border Agent Assaulted, Shots Fired

SWANTON, Vt. -- The U.S. Border Patrol says an agent shot at three suspects after being assaulted near the Vermont-Quebec border early Monday.

The agency said the officer was interviewing the three at about 2:15 a.m. when he was assaulted. The agent fired two shots.

Two of the suspects are in custody. The third escaped back into Canada.

    Holy Smokes!

Why, when I read the title of this thread, did I automatically assume it was the Mexican border?

I hope the officer will be okay and that they catch that 3rd guy! :behindbar

Interstate 91 in VT is a major smuggling pipeline. It's easier to smuggle contraband and even people into Canada and then across into the US than it is from other entry points. Unless you live up here, you likely wouldn't think about it being a problem. And if somebody really wants to get in and is willing to do a little hiking, it's impossible to stop given the wilderness nature of much of the VT, NH, ME border.
