I live in Florida. I see Turkey Vultures and buzzards all the time - in fact, I keep thinking there is someone (or thing) dead up the street because they seem to continually soar in this one particular area.

My question - wouldn't you think they would have been hoovering over little Caylee's dead body??? So close to so many homes, you would have thought there would have been a ton of them, and someone would have noticed them. Kinda gross I know, but just something I've wondered about.

Do you live in a more rural area? I've been in Florida enuf to know about the vultures but I've always noticed them being more out in open areas not in residential neighborhoods.

Nope, I'm in a very residential area - houses all over - traffic, etc.

Given the natural growth density of the area she was found in, the thorny ferns that can slice into flesh/feathers etc, would probably have thwarted a majority of the flying predator activity. Vultures/turkey vultures are lazy scavengers... the only thing they seem willing to put any energy into, other than scavenging what can be easily found, is keeping other predators away from their meals. If she had been in a clearing, I could see them flying in and around the area... but from the sound of things, she was located in a load of underbrush.

I live in a golf course community about an hour from Hopespring Drive and there are always buzzards here. If a small animal is hit by a car, they descend upon the remains and clear it of all but skeleton in a matter of hours. If a larger animal- for instance a deer is it, it becomes skeletal within a couple of days.

I have no doubt that these birds would have been all over Caylee's remains if the bag was ripped- and would have stripped it completley very quickly. When she was first placed there, she was on top of vegetation so it would have been easy for them to get to her.

Cars, thorns, bushes, etc do not deter these birds. I guess that's why they are called vultures.

Do they determine their prey by site or smell? I would assume smell --- if so, there would have been an odor - bag or no bag!!

Turkey Vultures do detect prey by smell, however where you see them soaring is because of a thermal updraft in that area, not specifically a rotting meal.

In time LE will be able to prove that the body was not moved & was there the entire time.
The meter reader was just a guy with a hunch and some free time. His persistence paid off. Just like ZFG was a weird coincidence, so will it be regarding the meter reader. These two things are nothing compared to all of the other mountain of evidence that will link KC to the death of her daughter.

Give LE a chance to illustrate that the scattered & de-fleshed bones were the result of the critters moving the decomposing materials around & underground into their burrows.

This will then de-bunk any ideas that the body was moved there after KC was in prison, and not scattered about in such a pattern by any human being. It was just the animals doing.

Once LE puts everything on the table it will be "beyond a REASONABLE doubt".
    She'll get LWOP.
