Oh no. That looks like a pretty violent crash. Since he was not found with the vehicle, I wonder if he was ejected or somehow made his way out instead.

If he was ejected I hope they search very far afield because I remember one WS case where the poor girl (Cassandra Johnston) was ejected through her sunroof and was found a half mile from her car.

Another sad thought - could he be under the vehicle?

Given that the windows are busted out, I think he'll be found downstream.

Highway 299 is a scary drive. It's very winding, with one lane in each direction, without any barrier in between lanes. People speed and then end up crossing over the line, and into your lane, on blind turns, often. I can totally see that happening to this man, and his instincts causing him to swerve to avoid the head on and ending up going down the ravine. Or driving too fast himself on a turn, or a deer jumping in front of the vehicle. I worried about all these possibilities the few times I have driven 299.

INGOT, Calif. — The body of a missing logger has been recovered from Little Cow Creek on Friday, the Shasta County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

The Shasta County Coroner's Office confirmed the identity of the body recovered from the creek as 59-year-old Alex Hays, Sr., the logger who went missing on March 13.

The Sheriff's office said their deputies responded to the creek near Highway 299 East and Seaman Gulch Road just after 1 p.m. on Friday. According to officials, Hays's truck was located in this area on Monday.

Responding deputies confirmed the person was deceased and utilized members of the SCSO Dive Team to recover the body.

The SCSO said Hays's next of kin have been notified and the Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy.
